Bold text== SIR SANTOSH ANJAY KUMAR BA DIP ED PHD Seeing as there are now four New Super Mario Bros. games, should there be a page for the subseries? Pokemega32 06:56, 8 June 2012 (EDT)
- We should, seeing as that we have series articles for the Mario Baseball and Mario Strikers series, despite both of them currently only have two games in the series. GreenDisaster 07:25, 8 June 2012 (EDT)
- Apples and oranges. The NSMB series is an extension of the core Super Mario platformer series: split it out and you have to split out the original SMB series, figure out what to do with SMW and SM3DL, and decide whether to include SMG and SMG2 in with the direct-sequel-less 3D platformers or give it its own subseries (and if you include remakes, SMA and SMAS would need addressing too). It's a very slippery slope. By comparison, even if there's only two of each, the Baseball and Strikers titles are completely unique from any other sports title. The only way you could not have them exist as series is by collapsing all the sports games into one mega subseries, but given the number of Tennis and Golf games, that would make organization an inefficient mess. Another thing to consider is that once you have series pages, that means rearranging the Histories too, which would be a huge undertaking, and would necessitate moving a lot of the core series info way far down the Histories. Seeing as these games are the backbone of Mario franchise as a whole, keeping them together, as high as possible on the pages, makes far more sense. Reorganizing Super Mario (series) to lump the different Super Mario branches might be a good idea, however, as long as there's still a bullet-point list at the top showing the straight chronological order of all of 'em, or something like that. - Walkazo 20:47, 8 June 2012 (EDT)
Concerning the trivia section.
"Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem! (pictured) is the first game in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series which Pauline is giving a voice."
Not only is this grammatically incorrect, it's also wrong. When Donkey Kong '94 was played on Super Game Boy, Pauline's cries of "help!" could be heard in a digitized voice. It doesn't work on emulators, but I recall seeing a video of it some time ago which I can't seem to find again. So if someone else could provide proof, that would be much appreciate it. - SiFi 07:25, 16 June 2012 (EDT)
- While she does speak in DK94 (here's proof), the Trivia's about the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, and DK94 is more of a precursor to the series, so it's not actually wrong. (But the grammar has been fixed.) - Walkazo 18:55, 17 June 2012 (EDT)
Organization of Games?
I'll like to know how are the games in character articles are organized? Like are they organized alphabetically or chronologically or something else? Zero777 (talk)
- History sections are chronological, but grouped by series; if there's a stand-alone game or if only one game in a series appears, don't bother with a series sub-header. Templates are supposed to be purely chronological, with any series-wide template being placed at the point in which the series first appears. Categories are alphabetical. Non-game-based templates and categories go before the game-based templates and categories, except for merchandise-based categories, which go at the very bottom. Here's a (hypothetical) comparison chart:
|
|
|
|
- All this applies to all types of appearances, not just games: in other words, movies, comics, books and TV shows would all be mixed in with the games in the Histories, templates and categories. And just in case you're wondering, cameos go at the bottoms of History pages (under an overall "Cameos" subheader), and a "Background" section is sometimes included at the top, i.e. for characters that had history as babies (such as Bowser, who also has a "Cameos" section, by the way), or one-off characters who have backstory set before their game starts (like the Shadow Queen). There can even be a "Creation"/"Creation and Development" section placed before the History section, which covers the characters Real Life history; Luigi has an example of this sort of section. Finally, for the record, the polices themselves can be found here for the Histories, here for the Templates, and here for the Categories. - Walkazo 20:59, 19 June 2012 (EDT)
- But wait! What about {Mario Party Characters}? MEGAMUSHROOM82 MP
- I didn't use Mario Party in my example, so that's not applicable. It also wouldn't be a proper template if it even existed: templates should be about everything in a game, not just one aspect, and templates about one aspect across an entire series are also highly dissuaded (I just included a "MK Series Characters" template in my example to show how the odd acceptable series-wide template would be placed). - Walkazo 20:53, 30 June 2012 (EDT)
- But wait! What about {Mario Party Characters}? MEGAMUSHROOM82 MP

Change the Paper Mario fact!
Since both Spiky and Spiny Tromps appear in the new Mario game, the fact that shows which Paper Mario characters appear in 3D games should be changed to add them. --Spookum (talk) 21:14, 19 November 2012 (EST)
- Ummm... neither of them appear in 3D Games, but i see how that might be true. Spiky must be Lakilester, since when you battle him he's known as Spiky. Both of them re-appear in Super Paper Mario, but only when Mario flips. But that also means every enemy that was remade into SPM must be 3D. Keep in mind that they still have 2D sprites. This is controversial, so whoever reads this should post a comment.File:Tweester.gif It's Meester Tweester! 05:58, 19 November 2012 (EST)

As the Poll Chairperson, let me say that the way our system works is that we use one week to nominate polls, and the second week to vote on them. Japanese Names
Why do we use Katakana instead of Hiragana for the Japanese names of characters and enemies? I'm a bit curious. Binarystep (talk) 13:42, 1 August 2013 (EDT)
- Because that's how Nintendo of Japan named them. As for why they did it, it's probably for the same reason anime, manga and other video game characters, items and species (like all the Pokémon) do it - which boils down to emphasis and branding stuff, as far as I know. Lots of the names are also onomatopoeia (like "Nokonoko" and "Patapata") or derived from non-Japanese words (i.e. "Mario", "Yellow Star" and even "Kuppa"), which are the other main uses of katakana. - Walkazo 19:04, 1 August 2013 (EDT)

We're not Wikipedia, but Wikipedia may have a good reason for why users are allowed to remove warnings as well, especially generally good-faith users removing them[1].

- No. Warnings serve as a permanent record. Have you heard the saying, "China and reputation are easily shattered and never well mended"? Besides, what's happened in the past shouldn't matter what has happened in the present; if the user has redeeming himself after getting the warning, he has really no fear of getting another warning. To get a warning like this anyway, you'd be breaking the rules, something I think is deserved for acting before you think. Warning templates make it easier for us to keep track of users who are bad, and it also keeps track of their infractions which could lead them to a ban. If a user feels like a warning is undeserved, they may appeal it to remove any time. Ray Trace(T|C) 01:34, 13 December 2013 (EST)
- Have you ever heard of the term "scarlet letter"? Warnings are meant to be... well, warnings, not branding users as misbehaving people for others to see. Restoring comments may lead to counterproductive edit wars. A better way to see how a user is going is through contributions, history pages, and block logs rather than talk pages. If people attempt to remove older warnings and reminders, especially after the issue is rested, restoring these warnings and reminders can respawn the problem. Appealing warnings does not remove them, as it leaves a blemish behind, showing where the warning previously was. Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 02:02, 13 December 2013 (EST)
- It depends on how you perceive it. Warnings are not intended to be scarlet letters. Rather, they're supposed to give users insight on what they had done wrong. Allowing them to remove warnings at will because it looks humiliating is petty. Besides, if the user decides to reform, this thing will become a relic of the past. If you really don't like it on your talk page, you can always archive it. Focus on the present and learn from your mistakes from the past. That's what the warning is supposed to be for. If you look at it another way, that's another way of saying that you take it too personally. People who assign this usually have nothing against you. Rather, they're just trying to help out by letting you know what you did wrong. If it's humiliating, I think you're just internalizing it rather than the issuer's true intentions. - Warnings are still treated like scarlet letters; scarlet letters are counterproductive and are often not worth it; also, removing warnings indicates that users have read the warning and understood what happened. Remember, we should assume good faith, not that the user removed it because they are ignoring it or they want to hide it. If users have stopped their distributive behavior and removed their warning, why should the warning be restored? They should not be permanent records. In fact, old warnings become irrelevant, so I don't see why those need to be kept anyway. They can be on archives, but they're still there and can be a painful reminder for some users. I think warnings being treated as permanent records can scare and intimidate new users, especially those that get warnings early.
- By no means am I supporting vandals remove warnings at will. I do, however, want to consider the new users and users that haven't disruptive for years since the last disruption. Once the mistake is learned and corrected, we don't have to leave it as a mark.
Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 02:24, 13 December 2013 (EST)- I don't see any evidence of warnings being treated like scarlet letters, nor do I see how they are counter-productive. Usually, major infractions constitute a warning, and often these infractions are the ones counter-productive to the wiki, rather than the warning itself. Usually, minor infractions come with an informal reminder, then a reminder, then a warning. If the user still doesn't get the clue about what he is doing wrong, we have no choice but to enforce our policies. The warning is there to enforce our policies so less counter-productive activities will take place. Usually, bad editors are the ones who remove the warning template. Anyway, new editors should probably read our policy pages before taking action, just to know how it's like around here. Again, new users are susceptible to act, uh, nooby at times, and that's ok - we guide them and give them friendly, informal reminders. Warnings, however, are pretty severe actions compared to these. The warning is considered a permanent record. Just like your suspension or something. It won't get removed any time, and I don't see any benefit of removing it other than some deeply personal issue about it being "humiliating", which wasn't the warning's intention in the first place. You're still missing out on "focus on the present and learn from the past" from my comments. Ray Trace(T|C) 02:37, 13 December 2013 (EST)
