Template:Species-infobox Purple Yoshis are a variety of Yoshi that first appeared in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. The Purple Yoshi of this game is playable on the fifth stage of each eight-stage world.

Purple Yoshi, along with Brown Yoshi, was going to be in Yoshi's Story, but both were removed in the final version. A Purple Yoshi still appears in the intro of Yoshi's Story, and there was a long-standing rumour that it would be unlocked as a playable character by collecting all the Heart Coins in each stage. This, however, has been proven false.

Purple Yoshis also appeared in Super Mario Sunshine. Yoshis can turn purple by eating a Durian or a Pepper. While purple, their juice would turn enemies into platforms that moved in one direction horizontally.

They reappeared in Yoshi's Island DS, with an identical role to that of Yoshi's Island. At the end of the game, Purple Yoshi, along the other Yoshis, help defeat Bowser with Baby Wario on his back.

Physical Appearance

In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Purple Yoshi debuted with purple skin and orange shoes with an orange saddle. However in the Game Boy Advance port, Purple Yoshi wore pink shoes.

Although Purple Yoshi had artwork for the game Yoshi's Story, and was even in the intro sequence, it was absent; despite heavy rumors of collecting every coin in every level would unlock it. However, in its artwork it had dark pink shoes, and a red saddle, which would remain its design from then on, except for Super Mario Sunshine, where it wore orange shoes like the other Yoshis in that game.

In Yoshi's Island DS Purple Yoshi wears dark red shoes.

Super Smash Bro. series

Purple Yoshi appears as a alternate color for Yoshi and can only be used by the CPU player. He also appears in one player mode along with other colored Yoshi's. In Brawl he only appears as a sticker that raises the attack by 20 in the Subspace Emesary.
