A new namespace?
Hello there! I still see here on the wiki some forum comments on game articles' respective talk pages. Instead of forcing to join the forums, I suggest the creation of a new namespace called "Game talk" where users who don't have a forum account or are forbidden to create one can talk about recently released and old games, freely. I think it would be a nice alternative to non-forum users. Waiting for an answer soon! --NewSMBU (talk) 07:29, 8 August 2012 (EDT)
- Interesting idea, but the focus of the wiki should always be the encyclopedia. --Steve (talk) 08:26, 8 August 2012 (EDT)

Aboutfile made default in upload summary
Hello,
I run another wiki (PidgiWiki, a catalog of video game artwork), and I've been trying to figure out how to make an information template default in the upload summary, as is done here with {{aboutfile}}
. Is this possible by simply editing MediaWiki files, or is there custom code at work? Would you mind sharing how to do this? Thank you so much!--Immewnity (talk) 11:44, 26 August 2012 (EDT)
- It's done through JavaScript here. You can see the code in the bottom-half of MediaWiki:Common.js and apply it to your own MediaWiki:Common.js. --Steve (talk) 11:49, 26 August 2012 (EDT)
Dutch Mario Wiki
Hey Porple, i want to make a dutch Mario Wiki. Not via wikia but powered by Media Wiki, like this website and the german and italian version. You created the english version so maybe you can help me. I'd like to ask you're help. And i'll ask the questions later. Thanks for listening. Armin00 15:55, 26 August 2012 (EDT)
My questions are:
- 1. Does it costs for the wiki? (Without forum)
- 2. How do i make the site? (Powered by MediaWiki, like this wiki)
- 3. If i make the site, can i take this background for my wiki?
Thanks for listening. Armin00 09:41, 27 August 2012 (EDT)
- 1) Yes, you would have to pay for web hosting and a domain. 2) Once you have hosting with PHP and a MySQL database, all you have to do is install MediaWiki. 3) I'd prefer that you come up with your own variation of images. --Steve (talk) 09:59, 27 August 2012 (EDT)
Is there one without paying but powered by media wiki? Armin00 10:43, 27 August 2012 (EDT)
- There are wiki farms, but I would only promote independent wikis. --Steve (talk) 10:56, 27 August 2012 (EDT)
Oh man, i don't want to pay it but i want that it's good. Armin00 10:57, 27 August 2012 (EDT)
- If you manage to get Google advertisements on the Wiki, you will find no reason to pay as the advertisements will do it for you. I'm not sure how it works though, I just know it's possible. JackpotJordan 15:39, 27 August 2012 (EDT)
Rollback status
Hi Porplemontage, I know it's not done this way, but I was hoping I could be privileged of having rollback status on this Wiki. I think I've been on long enough, and while there was a big gap in between my edits, it would still be nice to receive this. Don't worry, I'm not going to ask for Admin rights next, definitely not, but having this makes me feel I've got somewhere on MarioWiki. I hope you agree, JackpotJordan
- We don't have a rollbacker group; the closest thing is patroller. --Steve (talk) 20:43, 26 August 2012 (EDT)
New Start
Hey Porple, i readed the MW:FAQ about how to be an admin. I'm not here to ask you admin or bureaucrat powers. That's not the point at all. Or an new account is neither the point. My point is, i saw my edits. MASS of USER edits. I want to make a new start, ALOT of more main and ALOT of LESS user edits. Can i restart? Because it's my dream to be an admin. (The words that are cappalized is ment as an importnant word.) Armin00 15:30, 27 August 2012 (EDT)
P.S. you can add this on languages: http://supermariowiki.thegamewiki.com/wiki/Hoofdpagina . This is the dutch Mario Wiki. That soon will be cleared. Armin00 17:00, 27 August 2012 (EDT)
- I think it has to prove sustainable for a while and have a decent amount of articles. --Steve (talk) 17:15, 27 August 2012 (EDT)
Ok, i will ask it sooner again. Armin00 17:30, 27 August 2012 (EDT)
Hey, the work on the dutch wiki goes fast. It will be soon cleared. P.S. can i borrow some information from this wiki and translate it to dutch? And what whas the URL from the sidebar logo and notice. I wont copy but i want to change it of my wiki. Armin00 11:40, 28 August 2012 (EDT)
- If you borrow info you have to provide a link back to the source. MediaWiki:Sidebar, MediaWiki:Sidebar-logo, MediaWiki:Sitenotice... --Steve (talk) 11:52, 28 August 2012 (EDT)
How do i add more groups? Armin00 15:48, 28 August 2012 (EDT)
- I am not Wikkii; direct your technical questions to them. --Steve (talk) 16:10, 28 August 2012 (EDT)

Sorry to bother you–can you please hide the previous edit so that no one will get trapped? I heard from GreenD that the site described is full of viruses. --NewSMBU (talk) 15:22, 29 August 2012 (EDT)

Quick question
How come you don't have a high rank? You should, considering you CREATED THE ENTIRE WIKI and know a whole lot about it. LuigiBlubber
Error in a video file
Hey Porple. I have recently uploaded File:WL4-Opening Cut-Scene.OGG. The file type is OGG's multimedia format, and it plays fine on my computer, but it seems to have an error when uploaded here. If you are familiar with video files, do you know what's wrong with it? Thanks.
Shokora (talk · edits) 04:48, 19 September 2012 (EDT)
- OggHandler problem; it works now. Thanks for reporting this. --Steve (talk) 05:34, 19 September 2012 (EDT)
- Cheers!
100% Completion Page
My request is a 100% Completion page on this wiki. I want to request this page so that people can keep track of already completed aspects. Here's an example: 100% Completion

- On one hand it seems unofficial/arbitrary, but it may be useful for some people to have that info in one place. When I don't feel strongly either way, I tell people to ask around/do a proposal. --Steve (talk) 21:09, 26 September 2012 (EDT)
Question
Do you know how you can get like a higher rank on the Mario Wiki? I've heard there was Administrators on the wiki that do some special things.

Game Title Italicizing
Yeah, Porplemontage; just noticed that you created the template to italicize game names in main articles themselves. Since when did this come into play? Just curious about that so that I or others on staff don't "overrule" edits made using this template by mistake. --M. C. - "Mario Gals" Fan! User Page | Talk Page 02:05, 31 October 2012 (EDT)

Color loss
Hi. When re-uploading large images, I've noticed that sometimes the images lose it's color. A good example is where I reverted the Nintendo logo to a larger version, but once I had done so, the color was completely washed out. However, the full view of the image is perfectly fine. What's up with that? Please help because I tried to revert the Nintendo logo back to the smaller version, hoping that the color will return to normal, but it didn't.
Shokora (talk · edits) 04:01, 1 December 2012 (EST)
- It looks like our newer version of ImageMagick is blending more of the white with the gray. For alternatives, this SVG file works and my latest, smaller file works. --Steve (talk) 04:39, 1 December 2012 (EST)
Okay, it's good that yours works But is it safe to revert it to the larger one? If not, I'm sure the smaller one will do for now.
Shokora (talk · edits) 04:41, 1 December 2012 (EST)
- You know what, there was something about your version(s) of the image it didn't like. I uploaded a super-large new version and the color is fine. --Steve (talk) 04:49, 1 December 2012 (EST)
Cool, all sorted out. Have a merry Christmas!

Forum account
Hey Porple. Ever since my username was moved from Resident Knife to Knife, I haven't been able to log in. I assume the password is that same for both usernames, yet the forum says that the password is incorrect. I tried recovering my password from my e-mail (although I'm pretty sure I know what the password is), but haven't received the e-mail yet. Bear in mind, I did this almost a week ago and nothing has shown up in my inbox.
What should I do to get access back to my account? I know the software won't let you see what my password is, but maybe we can first try moving the username back to Resident Knife and seeing if I have access from there. Thanks.--Knife (talk) 10:12, 1 December 2012 (EST)
- A new password is emailed when the username is changed. I can manually change the password to something else and email it to you. Let me know where to send it or add an email address to your wiki account and I'll use the email user feature. --Steve (talk) 13:25, 1 December 2012 (EST)
Alright, I added an e-mail address to my wiki account. Send the password there, it should work.--Knife (talk) 11:17, 2 December 2012 (EST)
- Make sure it's authenticated and you checked "Enable e-mail from other users" because you still don't have an email link. --Steve (talk) 14:42, 2 December 2012 (EST)
I tried authenticating it, but no e-mail either. I think my inbox hates this site for some reason. My e-mail is visible to me though, I just didn't know if you had the ability to see it as well. Anyway, I'll just go ahead and type out my e-mail here. I'm not concerned with keeping it private, so no worries.
Send your e-mail to omar8193@gmail.com. Thanks.--Knife (talk) 12:51, 3 December 2012 (EST)
Thanks, you're the best. I think I know what the problem was. When I changed my password, it required a password 8 characters or more. My old password had less characters than that, so maybe it's Simplemachine's way of forcing me to conform to the new character requirement and was enforced when my name was changed. Shows how old my account is...--Knife (talk) 11:51, 4 December 2012 (EST)
Hello Porplemontage
I have a suggestion. You can see the Wiki toolbar above the editing window in Wikipedia, right?
I know we have one like that.. but why don't you add more buttons like Wikipedia. are you agreed?
- You know we could do that; I'll think about it. --Steve (talk) 15:41, 3 December 2012 (EST)
- Should i post this idea in MarioWiki:Proposals?
Wondering!
I'm wondering.. Is there a way to know whether the user is online or offline by their userpage? not using Special:Whosonline
Big problem
In the preferences: in Signature group box when I type {{User:Megadardery/sig}}
in the text box and press "Save" it is always changed to {{SUBST:User:Megadardery/sig}}
and my signature page contains a lot of codes and SUBST template gets *ALL* this codes into the article. Can it be solved??
- See Help:Signature. --Steve (talk) 04:38, 14 December 2012 (EST)
- THANK YOU very much -- 04:55, 14 December 2012 (EST)
Problem!
What is the problem with this picture?
it always says "Error creating thumbnail: Invalid thumbnail parameters", what's wrong?
- The image dimensions are too large. Image area cannot exceed 12.5 million pixels. MarioWiki:Image Use Policy --Steve (talk) 14:23, 15 December 2012 (EST)
- then why does this image File:Magnusvongrapple.jpg works well?

Sorry to interrupt, but could you change the polls?
Hi! I'm Electrical Bowser jr.!
It hasn't been changed in a week.
Hi! I'm Electrical Bowser jr.!
Oh sorry man..
Sorry Porple I reverted your move.. (List of Implied Characters)
but it created alot of double redirects so i didn't see who did that:(
I just want to warn you that List of Implied Entertainment did the same.. you should fix it or move it back.

About the recent changes
I've just noticed that edit times displayed in the Recent Changes are based on EST rather than GMT (at least they are on my computer; I'm not sure if the EST display shows up for everyone regardless of time zone). I was just curious as to whether that has or is intended to have any effect on proposals ending at times based on GMT. Mario4Ever (talk)
- EST is just the new default. You can change it back if you'd like; it doesn't affect proposals. --Steve (talk) 02:59, 24 December 2012 (EST)
Webchat
Hi again porple, there is something wrong with the webchat. When i go to the home page of the wiki, i press Wiki Chat, but there is a problem. The chat is too tiny. Earlier (few days), it was bigger, i liked that more. Could you please fix that? Armin00 17:13, 25 December 2012 (EST)
I'm using Google Chrome. It was bigger a few days ago. Armin00 17:21, 25 December 2012 (EST)
You mean how big is my screen? Armin00 17:23, 25 December 2012 (EST)
Uhhh... i don't know actually. But another user also said it was smaller to him. So i don't think it's only to me. I think that's to everybody who goes to the chat via that way. Armin00 17:30, 25 December 2012 (EST)
- A few people have come in lately with the same comment of chat being smaller. I went to look for myself and noticed the size of the window change as my page was loading: [1] and [2] . My screen is 1440x900 and I was on Firefox. - Hypnotoad (T|C) 17:37, 25 December 2012 (EST)
The height now adjusts based on your screen resolution and the chat was actually much larger for me. But I'm setting a minimum height of the old fixed height so it doesn't mess up on smaller resolutions. --Steve (talk) 17:41, 25 December 2012 (EST)
What's with the edit window?
Since you changed the toolbar i can't
- Undo or Redo
- When pasting text from other windows it is copied with it's font(not the editing font)
- I Used to press [alt + p] to preview the article but it is changed now. could you revert it back?

- Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing - Uncheck the two "Beta features" and save. --Steve (talk) 16:15, 26 December 2012 (EST)
- Didn't solve the problem.. but I solved it: It was the option under 'em which was "Enable navigable table of contents".
- I thought that it must be enabled to show the TOC but Thanks anyway.. It isn't related to the "Beta features"
