Template:Roombox The Bottom of the Well (Japanese: 井戸の下 Bottom of the Well) is the smallest location of the mansion in Luigi's Mansion, though it technically is not part of the mansion itself. It is cleared in the third Area.

In this location, Luigi can climb down, head east, and peer through the mouth of a stone lion into a small room. He can then see a painting of Mario mounted on the far wall, who is beating against the frame of the painting for help. As he cannot access the room his brother is trapped in, Luigi turns around and a Ceiling Surprise (a Purple Bomber in the PAL Hidden Mansion) spawns. After capturing the ghost, the Key to the Rec Room materializes. Luigi can then climb up the ladder, cross the courtyard, and unlock the newly-accessible area.

Trivia

  • "Bottom of the Well" is another name given to a dungeon found in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time video game.
  • While listening closely outside the well, one can hear Mario saying "Hey Luigi! What's the holdup?"
  • If Luigi enters the Bottom of the Well during the blackout, he can see Mario again through the statue, but King Boo will not be visible.
  • This room allows Luigi to view the final area of the game, the Secret Altar, long before he is actually able to enter there.
