Purple Yoshi

The Purple Yoshis are a species of Yoshi. The Purple Yoshis in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island only play the castle stages of each world(with the exception of the sixth castle, which Green Yoshi plays).
One can be seen in the intro of Yoshi's Story, and an ongoing rumor stated that it could be unlocked as a playable character by collecting all Heart Coins in each stage. This, however, is false.
They appeared in Super Mario Sunshine. Yoshis can turn purple by eating a Durian or a Pepper.
