Layout
The players start outside the palace, where a Talking Flower gives the players encouragement. Upon entering the palace, the players are greeted with a sea of lava and Ancient Dragon fossils rolling in the lava from the right to the left. The players will need to use these fossils as platforms to make it across the lava. Throughout the course, fireballs in sets of five, Li'l Scorchers and Dry Bones all appear out of thin air from smoke. There are also pots full of water in this course that can help defeat the Li'l Scorchers, who usually appear on the ceilings. The first checkpoint is found after some progress.
Past the first checkpoint is a wilted flower inside an Ancient Dragon fossil. Upon giving the flower water, it will cause the Wonder Flower to appear, and will transform the players into their Wubba forms upon obtaining it. While in their Wubba forms, the players will need to avoid Li'l Scorchers and the lava as they progress. They will also have to stay on a rolling Ancient Dragon fossil to get through a lava cavern. They will then have to climb upwards on rotating Ancient Dragon fossils to reach high up, where the Wonder Seed is, inside a rotating Ancient Dragon fossil. Collecting this Wonder Seed will transform the players back to normal, where they will fall down to the ground. The players will then need to trek up lots of stairs, where the second checkpoint, as well as a gate leading to an intermission area. The intermission area has a Roulette Block that shuffles between a Super Mushroom and a Bubble Flower. There is then a small passage that leads to Bowser Jr., where he is tired of playing with the heroes and will prevent them from stopping his father's "big, bad Wonder". He then proceeds to battle the players.
At the start of the battle, Bowser Jr. only spins inside his shell. If the players are on a high platform, Bowser Jr. can jump up to them while inside his shell. Upon taking damage, he transforms into Wonder Bowser Jr., who uses Wonder Power to cause a fiery background to appear, making everything, including the platforms to appear as silhouettes. The platforms gain eyes as well, and will move if players are on the edges of them. Wonder Bowser Jr. only spins inside his shell on this phase. Upon taking more damage, he will remove the fiery background, and make two fake clones of himself. These clones are grey in color and spin at a slower speed than Bowser Jr. When Bowser Jr. takes more damage, he brings back the fiery background and his clones still remain, making it tougher to tell who the real Bowser Jr. is. After taking even more damage, Bowser Jr, is defeated, and will transform back to his normal form. He then escapes, and the players obtain a Royal Seed.
