Chief Chilly
- “Hmm? I see you have no mustache. Poor, bald, little creature. It's not a fair fight for you, but luckily, I'm not a fair fighter. Let's go!”
- —Chief Chilly, Super Mario 64 DS
Chief Chilly is a large Big Bully made of ice, or possibly a Chill Bully; signifying that Chill Bully is in fact a species and not a notable Bully, and apparently the leader of all Bullies. He first appeared in Super Mario 64 DS, the Nintendo DS remake of Super Mario 64. Out of all the mustached bosses in the game, Chief Chilly takes great pride about his mustache[1]. Bowser hired him to trap the heroes of the game along with his other minions. He is much larger than an average bully, and has a spiked moustache and a crown of ice crystals.
History
Super Mario series
Super Mario 64 DS
Before Yoshi realized what happened in Princess Peach's Castle, Chief Chilly, along with Bowser, Goomboss, and Big Boo (presumably King Boo), ambushed Mario, Luigi, and Wario, which Chief Chilly was put under the control of Wario. Luigi came to Wario's rescue and was forced to battle the monstrosity. Despite being the weakest of the three mustached heroes, he managed to beat the boss and push Chief Chilly off the iceberg three times, and the key was given to Luigi at last. Chief Chilly disappeared after the battle to restyle his mustache and to get a rematch next time. During his first battle, it got tricky; as every time he was pushed in the water, he would cut up the arena, making it smaller. After taking a second hit, he would rock the iceberg and, when pushed to the edge, he would keep his balance for a little before going back to the middle. It was best for Luigi to smash him while he was slipping.
Mario Kart series
Mario Kart DS
In Mario Kart DS, Luigi must battle Chief Chilly in Level 6 of Mission Mode. Like the battle with Big Bully, Luigi must push Chief Chilly off his platform and into the water. However, Chief Chilly must be pushed off three times instead of one time, and became stronger and trickier after each time he was pushed off. Indeed, after the second time he fell in the water, Chief Chilly would be able to Jump over Luigi's boost attacks. To defeat him, Luigi had to attack Chief Chilly from the side, where the boss couldn't see him, or while the Bully boss was charging at him, which would knock both of them back, or if right nearby him. Chief Chilly was faster, stronger, and slightly more intelligent than Big Bully in this game.
Trivia
- Although Yoshi normally can't face Chief Chilly in Super Mario 64 DS, if the player uses a glitch to enter the mirror and get into Chief Chilly Challenge, then Yoshi can face and defeat Chief Chilly (although Yoshi can't punch or perform most kicks, ground pounds and crouching kicks still work against him). Interestingly, Chief Chilly has special quotes for when facing Yoshi and when being defeated by him (see the quotes page for more).
