- “My beloved pet! She wouldn't harm a flea so be nice to her!”
- —Wario, Wario Land II
Hen is Wario's pet Chicken seen in Wario Land II. She is notable for being the only known female Chicken, and also for being one of the few things that Wario expresses love for.
Hen appeared in the first Story of Chapter 2 (the SS Tea Cup): Return the Hen to Her Nest. The cutscene before this stage depicts the three Pirate Goom soldiers of the Black Sugar Pirates dashing away with Wario's Treasures and startling the graceful bird. Wario followed closely behind, in pursuit of his loot. However, when he saw his pet fly away, he temporarily stopped his quest, as he loved his Hen even more than he did money. He soon found the Hen in the outskirts of his lawn, and he managed to fight his way through the other Chickens and strange foes to return the Hen to her nest. It was there that she laid an egg.
Although Wario seems to love his Hen very much, she may be his unwilling prisoner. During Wario's attempt to bring her home, she was constantly trying to run away. This may, however, be merely because she was roused up by the turn of events in her peaceful life. The male Chickens are also notorious for being very protective of the Hen, as they will charge at Wario when he is holding her, but otherwise only attack when attacked.
Hen reappears in Game & Watch Gallery 4, in the Fire Attack Modern game. In the game, Hen will climb up the stairs into Wario's house. If Wario stands behind Hen, she will lay an egg worth 5 points. If he attacks her, like the Bob-Ombs that also climb up the stairs, she will not give him any points.
