The Bob-omb Buddies are recurring allies to Mario of the Bob-omb species. They can be differentiated from the foes by their distinct pink (sometimes red) color. In their first appearance, Super Mario 64, the Bob-omb Buddies helped Mario by opening Cannons for him (but are peace loving bob-ombs), and were shown to have a longstanding rivalry with the evil Bob-ombs, as this was the first time both groups were at war. They have also helped Mario and his allies in Super Mario 64 DS by giving the locations of the eight Red Coins in whatever level they're in as well as opening cannons as usual. The power to sense red coins seems to come from their red colouring, so it is something evil Bob-ombs cannot do.

The Bob-omb Buddies also appeared as aides in the Mario Party games, as well as the Super Mario 64 remake. Their most recent appearances were in Mini-games in New Super Mario Bros. and will reappear in Super Mario Galaxy 2.
