A similar object appears in the game ''Chibi Robo'', named the Chibi-Copter, only you cannot fly upwards. Other than that, there is no difference purpose-wise.

The Propeller Mushroom[1] is a new item in the upcoming game, New Super Mario Bros. Wii. As the name states, the item is used to let the user float through the air, spinning like a propeller, slowly floating down to the floor. A player can grab onto another user who currently has the Propeller Mushroom. To do this move, the player must shake the Wii Remote. The Propeller Mushrooms's appearance is an orange-capped Mushroom with two light-yellow spots and a yellow propeller atop the cap. Eating a Propeller Mushroom turns the eater in its Propeller form, adding a jumpsuit (in color of the character) with a large helmet-like cap that has a propeller sticking out of it and the player's emblem emblazoned on its sides. It debuts in world 1-1.

It was originally a Propeller Suit, which was a P-like suit with a propeller. Since it is now a Mushroom, the original Propeller Suit is now a beta element.
