King Boo's Haunted Hideaway is a board from Mario Party 8. It's a basic haunted house-themed board, like a mix between Horror Land from Mario Party 2 and Luigi's Mansion. This board is very unique in the fact the player can always see only a few spaces ahead of your character, even when viewing map. The board changes every time, so it's hard to keep the player bearings. King Boo is the main attraction, and will be hiding somewhere in the mansion. There are many sanctums in the mansion, but only one will have King Boo, whereas the others are pitfalls. Players that enter a sanctum with a pitfall will cause Pink Boos (called Red Boos in this game) to toss them in, taking them back to the the start of the board (players will use black pipes to come back to the start every time for whatever reason). Pink Boos also run the Candy Shops here too. When a player finds King Boo, he'll give them a star for 10 coins. He'll then "summon the bizarre" to rearrange the board, send everyone back to start, and begin the search again. Whomp is here too, and players who want to pass him must pay the usual 10-coin fee. If the player pays, he'll move and the player can go on a shorter path.

Landing on DK Spaces will cause Donkey Kong to appear and use his platforms to block the pitfalls. The first player that reaches him receives a free Star from the great ape. The Bowser Space works the same way, only if a player gets to Bowser, he'll take away a Star from him/her, then they'll drop into the pitfall (although he'll give ten coins to anyone with no Stars). After a player encounters Donkey Kong or Bowser, the pitfalls will return to normal.

The ? Spaces in front of Piranha Plants will make the flowers chew on players for 10 coins. ? Spaces next to mirror cabinets will transport another player to the space. The ? Space next to Mowz will let the player steal something from another player via pinball. ? Spaces next to shaking chests will open the chest, giving the player candy, 20 coins, or Pink Boos that swipe 10 coins away.

In Duel mode, the winning conditions were to get 2 Stars by finding King Boo twice with 10 coins each time (a little like Neon Heights from Mario Party 7). Here, the mansion stayed the same, and areas that were revealed stayed that way even when players went back to start after finding King Boo.

Trivia

  • This is King Boo's first appearance in a Mario Party game, let alone him getting his own board.
