Donkey Kong Coconut Crackers, also called Donkey Kong Puzzle Paint at one point in development,[4] was a canceled puzzle game for the Game Boy Advance and a Donkey Kong spin-off title. The game was developed by Rare Ltd., was shown off at E3 2001, and was originally planned for release in November 2001 in the United States[1] and December 7, 2001, in the United Kingdom.[2] It was likely postponed ahead of time due to the forthcoming acquisition from Microsoft on September 24, 2002.[5] Eventually, the game was canceled along with Donkey Kong Racing in August 2002,[6] one month before Microsoft's acquisition of Rare. The game went through many different iterations, with and without Donkey Kong attached to it, including the following working titles: Splonge, Nutcracker, Animal Cracker(s),[7] and Sunflower.[8][better source needed] After the game was canceled, the Donkey Kong elements from the game were removed, and Rare considered reworking it into a Banjo-Kazooie spin-off titled Banjo's Jiggy Juggle, or a Sabreman title.[9] The game was eventually converted into It's Mr. Pants, whose trademark was registered on November 9, 2001,[10] and released in late 2004.
Some of the planned modes included various challenges around Donkey Kong Island, challenges from Cranky Kong, and a multiplayer mode.[1]

Trivia
- The main Coconut Crackers artwork made a cameo appearance in the 2000-2003 sizzle reel made for the animated 2012 movie Foodfight!, as seen in the original trailer. It does not appear in the final film, which opted for a different, more motion-capture animation style.
