Bowser's Space Race is a Boss Battle minigame in Mario Party: Star Rush. The name is a likely reference to the historical period, the Space Race, where the two leading Cold War powers (the United States and Soviet Union) competed for spaceflight supremacy. It is one of the three Bowser-themed Boss Battle minigames in the game.

Introduction

Bowser flies to the scene on his mech. He laughs and then forms up the track to battle him.

Gameplay

Players are on hovering machines that carry a bomb. With Circle Pad, they can move left and right, but they can also push forward or pull backward. Once per round, pressing B Button executes a brief dash. To earn points, players must navigate through a track. Bowser in his machine shoots several projectiles which, if they hit, remove the player from the round and remove a point from them. He will either spit fireballs which pass through the course in a straight line, or fire the spikes on his machine as missiles to hit the course (their landing point is shown by a red crosshair). At the end of this course, there is a Mega Mushroom in the middle. The first player who can grab the Mega Mushroom deals more damage and earns three points. Other players who are not eliminated for that round deal one damage.

When Bowser loses half of his health, he becomes enraged and retreats into his machine, which transforms into a mech. The mech will spit blue fireballs which act similarly to Bowser's fireballs in the first phase, but travel much faster. Spike Balls function similarly to the missiles from the first phase, but when they land, they roll around. The machine's arms are an additional obstacle, which curve around the course. These take up a large amount of the course, although Bowser can only use this attack twice. The player who deals the final blow on Bowser receives three points.

Ending

Bowser's mech malfunctions, falls apart into space and explodes, launching Bowser far away, leaving behind a twinkle in space. In Toad Scramble, Bowser drops two Stars.
