Heart
The heart from Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3.
Description
A heart that awards Heart Points.
First appearance Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (1994)
Latest appearance Virtual Boy Wario Land (1995)
Effect Gives 10 Heart Points (Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3); gives 1 Heart Point (Virtual Boy Wario Land).

Hearts,[1][2] also referred to as Bonus Hearts,[3] are items in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. Hearts can be found in many ? Blocks throughout the game. After appearing, hearts continuously blink and stay in place; they do not disappear until Wario picks them up. When picked up, they award Wario 10 Heart Points[4] towards an extra life. In contrast, 1 Heart Point is normally awarded for each defeated enemy unless a Star is active (which changes it to 10 Heart Points per enemy). While coins have appeared and had a similar effect in other Mario games, coins in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 do not contribute to getting extra lives.

Hearts make a reappearance in Virtual Boy Wario Land, where there are two types: a regular heart now worth 1 Heart Point, and a Big Heart[2] worth the original amount of 10 Heart Points. While the same methods as its predecessor may be used, regular hearts can now also be obtained by destroying blocks or defeating an enemy via a fire attack from Sea Dragon Wario or King Dragon Wario (as opposed to dashing, which instead relinquishes a coin).

Since no other Wario Land games feature a Heart Point system, these types of hearts have never reappeared. In Wario Land 4, however, hearts that replenish health make an appearance.
