The Battle Lab is a training area in Paper Mario: The Origami King. It is located in the basement of a house in Toad Town with a sign of two hammers crossed above the door, and is unlocked after rescuing a Toad folded into a dog on Picnic Road. There are three different types of services here: The ring trainer, the training machines, and the VR Bossotronic Fighter.

Training machines

There are three different training machines:

  • The one with four red pads in a line is for practising the Jump action command.
  • The one with an orange circle is for practising the Hammer action command.
  • The one with a cardboard Goomba is for practising blocking.

Ring trainer

The purpose for the ringer is to practice solving ring puzzles, using Toads resembling the Rescue Squad from Paper Mario: Color Splash. There are two different modes.

The Ringer

There are three levels, in which Mario must solve ten ring puzzles. Failing to get a perfect lineup with the number of moves will automatically end the level. After completing a level, the fastest time taken is recorded. The first level is available initially, while the second and third levels are unlocked at different points in the game. If Mario completes all three levels, he earns The True Ringer trophy.

Speed Rings

Speed Rings is an endless mode, in which Mario must solve as many ring puzzles as he can within 100 seconds. If the Toads are not lined up within the move limit, the puzzle resets. There is also an option to pass to a different puzzle, which decreases the timer by 10 seconds. If Mario manages to solve 16 puzzles, he earns the Speed Ring King trophy.

VR Bossotronic Fighter

The VR Bossotronic Fighter allows Mario to refight past bosses from the game. For each battle, Mario's HP is set to a certain amount and is given certain weapons and items. Additionally, 1-Up Mushrooms and accessories cannot be used. The fastest time taken to defeat the boss is also recorded afterwards. After defeating all bosses, Mario recieves the Bowser collectible trophy.
