Template:Character-infobox The Earth Vellumental is the first boss fought in Paper Mario: The Origami King. It is an origami turtle who resides in the Earth Vellumental Temple. Mario and Olivia encounter it after falling down a hole. It is based on the Black Tortoise.
Battle
The attacks that the Earth Vellumental uses are Sandblast and Earthquake, both of which the player can block. To defeat this boss, the player must first hit its tail, which makes it tuck inside of its shell. Then, the player must land on the 1,000 Fold Arms space to grab its shell and hit it multiple times, defeating it.
After defeating it, Olivia gets the power to transform into the Earth Vellumental on certain Magic Circles. She does so to help Mario out of the temple and to lower the Overlook Tower.
Attacks

- Earthquake: It hits the ground with one of its legs to create an earthquake on the column of spaces where Mario is. It uses this attack after his head is attacked.
- Tremor Tail: It turns around and smashes its tail on Mario. It uses this attack when only its tail is exposed.
- Rough Landing: It pounds the ground with its shell. This happens after it tucks its entire body in its shell.
- Mega Earthquake: It charges for two turns and afterwards jumps high in its shell and hits the ground, creating an earthquake that covers the entire arena and causes a lot of damage.
- Terrepair: If Mario fails to finish off the boss with the 1,000 Fold Arms, it heals itself and returns to its first phase.
