FAQ Talk
|
---|
Have a question you want to ask that you haven't found anywhere else? Ask it here! We might even add it to the FAQ.
Should we change "North America" and "Australia" to "Americas" and "Oceania" respectively?
I'm asking this due to the reasons shown below:
North America: While Nintendo neglected Brazil, due to its massive import taxes, they still sell their products there (even though they release them in a more slower rate there). I've even found more Brazilian people than Greek people in online games and Miiverse. A lot more.
Australia: Excuse me, but where is New Zealand? New Zealand is NOT part of the Australia region. Plus, Oceania has about 14 countries, so yeah. Gold Luigi (talk) 07:48, 12 July 2017 (EDT)
- We've decided to keep the Americas separate for regional aspects, but we will go through pages and mark Australia + New Zealand "Oceania" when applicable, like when release dates between the two match up. We'll have to adjust some things like templates, but you are free to help with that in article context if you feel like it. Sorry for the wait :) 21:30, 14 July 2017 (EDT)
- Thanks. New Zealand ALWAYS gets the same Nintendo content and release dates as Australia; clicking on New Zealand on Nintendo Country Selector will even redirect you to the Australian site. Just pay close attention to the link after clicking New Zealand. So I think you'll need to replace "Australia" with "Oceania" everywhewre it says "Australia". Also, will North America still be called "North America"? I really did not understand the part where you said you'll keep the Americas seperate for regional aspects. Gold Luigi (talk) 04:01, 15 July 2017 (EDT)
- Yeah, we're leaving North America and South America as is. 11:14, 15 July 2017 (EDT)
- Sorry for late reply, but it just came to my head! Are you going to announce the change sometime? If so, will you tell them about the change in other wikis too? Gold Luigi (talk) 18:40, 28 July 2017 (EDT)
- I don't think we need to. And what other wikis are you talking about? 19:21, 28 July 2017 (EDT)
- Well, I'm talking about wikis like Nookipedia, Donkey Kong Wiki, Zelda Wiki, etc., maybe even Wikipedia. They don't know about the change. And I think you should announce it, since some people won't know why we did this change. Gold Luigi (talk) 05:28, 29 July 2017 (EDT)
- I don't think we need to. And what other wikis are you talking about? 19:21, 28 July 2017 (EDT)

Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I decided to change "Oceania" back to "Australia", since I believe that something just doesn't feel right when I see/say "Oceania". However, I will keep "Oceania" in Australia's flag description, in order to reflect the release dates of Australia. (I also did a similar thing on North America, Europe, and Hong Kong. Check their flag description if you don't know what I mean.) Gold Luigi (talk) 08:45, 18 December 2017 (EST) NOTE: I still haven't finished the revert. However, I do plan to continue it. If you want to help me, go ahead.
- After you made a big deal about changing it? Why? 11:36, 18 December 2017 (EST)
- Yeah. I honestly should be ashamed for myself for even starting such a pointless, and I mean, POINTLESS question. Don't worry though. I 'm still OK, and I can still handle the edit if you like. Gold Luigi (talk) 12:19, 18 December 2017 (EST)
- Seems pointless now to switch it all back. Just leave it how it is. 12:23, 18 December 2017 (EST)
- Nah, it's OK. Plus, most people just say "Australia/New Zealand" instead of "Oceania" or just "Australia" and other times they don't even mention Oceania at all, similar to South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Could you also check the latest question I made yesterday? I really can't stand seeing Chinese occupying the same spot all the time, as it makes it harder for some people, including me, to read the Chinese names. Gold Luigi (talk) 12:36, 18 December 2017 (EST)
- Point is, the change from Australia to Oceania was discussed last time, as your point was "Australia" shouldn't be the term to cover all releases in the Oceania region, which we agreed to. Now you want to change it back just...because? If you have a good reason to do this, I'm not seeing it. 12:40, 18 December 2017 (EST)
- Because most people say "Australia" rather than "Oceania". These people will understand the "Oceania" but will find its use kind of odd now that they say "Australia". Gold Luigi (talk) 15:05, 18 December 2017 (EST)
- Could you please stop reverting these changes I did? I told you, the majority of the video gaming community says "Australia/New Zealand", "Australia", or they never mention it. Super Mario Wiki is a fanmade wiki that was made by gaming fans, so I want for it to be fulfill the conditions for the majority. Gold Luigi (talk) 17:43, 18 December 2017 (EST)
- This was discussed last time, it needs to be discussed again. 17:44, 18 December 2017 (EST)
- And how can I do that? Gold Luigi (talk) 18:00, 18 December 2017 (EST)
- The staff will discuss it, I meant. 18:01, 18 December 2017 (EST)
- You mean that I should contact an admin if I want to discuss it again? Gold Luigi (talk) 18:03, 18 December 2017 (EST)
- No I brought it up already. 18:08, 18 December 2017 (EST)
- sigh* Guess never mind. I'll just stick with "Oceania", like you told me before. Gold Luigi (talk) 07:41, 19 December 2017 (EST)

Can you add a portuguese wiki
I want to know how can I translate the Mario Wiki to portuguese. There are many brazilians fans and they can't obtain knowlege if they don't speak english. Please, can any moderator help me?
OBS: I will translate as I can
The preceding unsigned comment was added by 170.238.197.226 (talk).
- Hello. Unfortunately, I don't believe there is a Portuguese version of the wiki made. Sometimes we have Portuguese names listed in the "Names in other languages" section on some pages, though. 12:17, 7 September 2017 (EDT)

I am rather ashamed to admit that I have been around for half a year and I don't know how to cite sources. Can someone link me to a tutorial page? -YFJ (talk · edits) 23:51, 19 November 2017 (EST)

How to change from .jpg to .png?
So I uploaded this image in .jpg format, and then I recaptured it in .png format. However, the system won't let me change the file type! How do I change it? Is it even possible? -YFJ (talk · edits) 13:15, 25 November 2017 (EST)
- According to this policy, it is against the rules to convert a JPG file to a PNG file anyways. I'd suggest reading more about it on that page. LuigiMaster123 13:18, 25 November 2017 (EST)
- It's against the rules to directly convert an image from .jpg to .png. It's not against the rules to replace an old .jpg image with a new .png image. However, if you want to upload a file in a different format, it must be uploaded as an entirely separate file. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 13:20, 25 November 2017 (EST)
Gamepedia
Hello, I have been wondering, if this wiki will ever change their host to Gamepedia as the ZeldaWiki. It would be great but this is not my decision. ThaumicTom (talk) 05:32, 7 December 2017 (EST)
- After dealing with the various 500 errors Gamepedia has to offer, an individual host is much better than a collective, imo. 11:39, 7 December 2017 (EST)
- You should ask porplemontage (talk) this as he's the one who deals with this type of stuff Ray Trace(T|C) 14:04, 7 December 2017 (EST)
Can you separate Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese instead of putting them in the same place?
I believe that Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese being in the same place in the "Names in other languages" section makes it harder to read their names, especially if they're different from each other. Could you please make them separate in a similar way you separated the European and American variants of the French, Spanish, and Portuguese languages? Gold Luigi (talk) 18:53, 16 December 2017 (EST)
- I think that's a good idea. Are they even localized in the same areas, because sometimes, their simplified variants are different. Ray Trace(T|C) 15:27, 18 December 2017 (EST)
- Yes. Example:
Names in other languages
Language | Name | Meaning | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Chinese | 新庫巴市 (Traditional) Xīn Kùbā Shì 新酷霸王市 (Simplified) Xīn Kùbàwáng Shì |
New Koopa City |
That's how we currently separate the Traditional and Simplified variants of the Chinese language. And Neo Bowser City's Simplified Chinese writing looks so different compared to the Traditional Chinese writing, despite sharing the same name. Gold Luigi (talk) 16:11, 18 December 2017 (EST)
- Good catch; we already do this for Spanish/French/Portuguese regoinal differences, so why don't we do the same for Chinese dialect differences? (T|C) 16:19, 18 December 2017 (EST)
- Exactly. By the way, which Chinese dialect should be put first in the list? Traditional Chinese or Simplified Chinese? To be fair, I'm not really sure. Gold Luigi (talk) 16:37, 18 December 2017 (EST)

I'm trying to upload a lot of files. Is there a way to speed up the process? Is there a way to upload fifteen files at once? Thanks! -YFJ (talk · edits) 03:03, 14 January 2018 (EST)

Sigh out
Dear people,
I'm very sorry, but I want to sigh out. I couldn't see any posibility to do that. How can I do that?
-Whomp King
- I'm assuming you mean "sign out". There is a "log out" link at the top-right of the desktop page, or in the side menu on mobile. 18:09, 31 January 2018 (EST)
No, I meant sigh out. Erase my account.
- I've...never heard of that phrase. Anyway, since you don't have a userpage and the only edits you've made are to this page, there's no reason to delete your account. Scramble your password if you want to. 18:17, 31 January 2018 (EST)
Yeah, again: I'm sorry. It's just... I don't do anything with my profile. So I can only change my password?
- Yep, input a random string of garble. Just be sure it's what you want to do. You may want to come back at a later date. You can just leave your profile alone for now and came back to the wiki whenever. 18:26, 31 January 2018 (EST)
Alright. Then I'll just forget about my account for now. Thanks anyway for your help. Perhaps, I'll come back again someday.
Can I get e-mail notifications when there are new nintendo/mario news?
Hi.
I would like to get e-mail notifications whenever there are updates to the Nintendo/Mario-news section on the front page. Is this possible?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by CurvatureOfBetrayal (talk).
- Yes, actually. Provided you have your preferences set up to send you notifications, go to Template:News and click the "watch" tab at the top. Every time the template is changed, you will get an email notification. 12:49, 4 February 2018 (EST)
- To elaborate on what Alex said, here are some step-by-step instructions:
- Step 1: Go to your user preferences.
- Step 2: Click the "User profile" tab.
- Step 3: Make sure an email address is registered with your account.
- Step 4: Make sure "Email me when a page or a file on my watchlist is changed" is checked. Remember that this emails you when ANY watched page/file is changed.
- Step 5: Go to Template:News.
- Step 6: Click the "watch" button at the top of the page.
- Step 7: Set up your device to send you email notifications.
- Step 8: Wait for an email.
- I hope this helped! -YFJ (talk · edits) 18:27, 4 February 2018 (EST)

Something I've always wondered
Why does the Wiki have full coverage of the Donkey Kong series when there's already the DKWiki? RickTommy (talk) 03:05, 8 September 2018 (EDT)
- As far as I know, the DK Wiki was created after the Super Mario Wiki to cover all of the DK content which was being covered on the Super Mario Wiki at the time. I think Yoshi and Wario Wikis were also made, however they have since been deleted as much of the content was copied directly from the Super Mario Wiki, which still had the best coverage of the series. DK Wiki is fairly similar, but it's lasted longer as it has more original content. Either way, it's currently being merged back here for the same reason - too many directly copied pages and generally better coverage here. I'm not 100% sure on all of those facts, but I hope that answers your question. :) BBQ Turtle (talk) 03:33, 8 September 2018 (EDT)

Current Did You Know section on the Main page
I wasn't sure where to mention then so I guess I'll put it here, the current Did You Know section states "Mario Party 2 and Mario Party DS are the only installments in the Mario Party series to be released on the Virtual Console" although I'm pretty sure Mario Party Advance was also released on the VC. Just wanted to bring this up. Emario407 (talk) 20:00, 4 December 2018 (EST)
Will MarioWiki ever get a visual editor?
I have been on this wiki since 2017, but I’m still not the best with MediaWiki syntax. Over at Wikipedia, I mainly use the visual editor. It’s a lot easier to understand for a beginner like me, and I think it will help quite a lot of people. So, do you think MarioWiki will ever get a visual editor like the one Wikipedia has? Mobile games and new content
What's the policy on how we handle "unused content" with mobile games that will likely get these characters later on? For example, Dr. Mario World has four unimplemented player characters and eleven unimplemented assistants at the time of posting, but more are supposed to be added. In addition, all the characters so far that have been added were originally in the "pre-release and unused content" section. Mario Kart Tour is another example of this. It just doesn't seem like it should say "pre-release" or "unused". JoeRunner (talk and stuff) 21:23, September 29, 2019 (EDT)
Those Green contribution points
What are those green contribution points for and how do I become a level above autoconfirmed? Do the points have something to do with it? Is it how many edits I make or the point counter? User:Awesomehippos 22:09 October 16, 2019 (CST)
- They're how many bytes of text were added or removed from a page, not edit points (though that sounds like a delightful idea). TheDarkStar 23:15, October 16, 2019 (EDT)
Darnit. I was getting excited whenever it was a big number. that is disappointing news :( What can you do to increase your rank? Just make more edits correct?

unsurprisingly enough, I have a guide in my userpage for becoming an amazing user. TheDarkStar 23:22, October 16, 2019 (EDT)
