This article is about a level in Donkey Kong Land 2. For a level in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest of the same name, see Ghostly Grove (Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest).

Template:Levelbox Ghostly Grove is the twenty-third level in Donkey Kong Land 2 for the Game Boy. It is the first area of Gloomy Gulch.

This is the first forest level in the game, set in a place where ropes make their debut within this game. They are short ropes that constantly appear and disappear; the Kongs cannot hang too much time on them, unless they want to fall down. They must hurry up jumping from one to another. Enemies like Spinies, Klomps, Zingers, Klampons, Klobbers, and Krunchas populate this level.

Level layout

Ghostly Grove
Dixie Kong jumps from a rope just before the spring.

The level begins on a trail with a small hill along it. A pair of Klampons walk down the pathway, and an alcove with a DK Barrel in it can be found ahead of it under a pair of ropes. They can be used to climb to a high ledge that leads onto a straight pathway. Klomps and Klampons patrol this area, which is followed by a few small ledges that the Kongs can drop down to access a lower area, where a lone Klobber waits to attack. A Ghost Barrel is next to the first ledge with the letter K by it. A Zinger blocks the Kongs' path near the Klobber. The Kongs can find a long abyss after this wasp enemy, but it can be crossed with assistance from a pair of ropes. A Spiny is in the area on the other side of this abyss. The porcupine crawls in front of a raised piece of land with a treasure chest, containing a Banana Coin, and a Kruncha on it, followed by a small gap that can easily be jumped across. Regardless, a rope appears next to it to aid the heroes in crossing. Two more ledges follow here that have a couple of Klampons climbing down them. A Klobber hides in its barrel immediately after the second ledge. A large gap is just ahead of here with a few ropes floating in it. Zingers also fly over the abyss to get in the primates' way as they climb along the ghostly ropes. A long pathway with a Klomp marching along it succeeds this area, and a DK Barrel and a Klobber are also here, being followed by a ledge that can be climbed to enter a slightly higher elevation. A hidden rope with the letter O next to it is to the left of the ledge. A Klampon is ahead, marching in front of a raised piece of land with a Spiny and a Banana Bunch on it. After passing another Klobber and traveling down a ledge, the heroes approach a wide abyss. Several ropes float in it that they can use to cross, but Zingers try to attack them as they progress. A Star Barrel waits on a small platform successive to this.

A small gap is ahead with a Klobber on the other side of it. Some stair-like pieces of land are located nearby with a second Klobber at the top of them. This foe is followed by a DK Barrel and a Spiny. If the heroes continue from here, they come up to a wide abyss that they must cross with the aid of more ropes. They come up to the letter N on the way. A Kruncha stomps on the opposite end of the gap. A raised piece of land is behind it. Another small gap is farther ahead with two more ropes in it. A Zinger is also at the beginning of the abyss. If the two friends manage to cross, they come up to a Spiny with a Klampon following right behind it. Several ledges that lead the heroes to a higher elevation are ahead with additional Klampons marching along them. An abyss is located shortly after the ledges that can be overcome with help from more ropes. On the other side of the gap, there is a long hill with some Klomps traveling up it. The letter G is next to a ledge at the bottom of the hill. After the heroes use ropes to cross another gap found just ahead, they land on a platform with a Klampon on it. A smaller gap follows with a DK Barrel just after it. Another small platform with a Klampon present on it is after a wide abyss located immediately after this barrel, and several Ghost Barrels must be used to cross. Afterwards, the Kongs can find a smaller abyss is after this platform, and only a single rope must be used to cross it. A spring lies on the other side of the gap, and a rope and a Video Game Hero Coin float next to it. If the spring is bounced on, the level is completed.

Secrets

K-O-N-G Letters

  • K: The letter K is next to the third rope found after a long trail of enemies.
  • O: The Kongs climb a small ledge after the second DK Barrel. If they jump to the left from the top of the ledge, they can reach a hidden hook near a rope that has the letter O next to it.
  • N: Shortly after the Kongs pass the Star Barrel, they climb over a wide abyss using Ghost Barrels. The letter N is in this area by one of the ropes.
  • G: The letter G is just before the final DK Barrel in the level near an abyss that must be crossed by using ropes.

Bonus Level

  • Shortly after the letter N, the primates have to climb up a few ledges with Klampons lurking on them. Soon, they can get to an abyss, where there is a Zinger flying up and down in between two ropes. They should also notice a trail of bananas leading downwards into the abyss. They must follow the trail to land into a hidden Bonus Barrel, which sends them to a Bonus Level. There, they need to jump over another Zinger and begin climbing across a large abyss with the help of ropes. When they get to the other side of the gap, they can grab the Kremkoin. They fail this bonus if they take more than 10 seconds to collect the coin, or if they touch the Zinger or fall into the pit.

Cranky's Video Game Hero Coin

  • At the end of the level, the Kongs can find a spring that they can bounce on to complete the level. Instead of jumping on it, they should travel past it to find a hidden rope with the Video Game Hero Coin next to it.
