Paper Goombas are paper forms of Goombas that appear as enemies in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. Unlike their regular Goomba counterpart that also appears, which charge at the Mario Brothers, the Paper Goombas instead jump up and float down or walk slowly toward them. Paper Goombas are commonly found at Sunbeam Plains and Neo Bowser Castle. In the same areas, a stack of Paper Goombas can be found, which have higher POW and Defense and can attack multiple times.

Rare, shiny variants can also appear in place of the regular Paper Goombas in the same areas. These Goombas have greater stats and will always drop a Syrup Jar and 1-Up Mushroom when defeated, though their methods of attack remain the same. Stronger versions of a shiny Paper Goomba can also appear alongside Shiny RoboBowser during the battle, which have even greater stats and will always drop a Max Mushroom upon defeat.

There is a specific Paper Goomba named Crinkle Goomba, who is a recurring character throughout the game.
