Template:Level Coral Quarrel is the seventh level in Donkey Kong Land III. It is located in the north-east of Primate Plains and is the first level in this area. It takes place in the depths of a large lake, that may be part of the Great Ape Lakes according to the world map.

To complete this level, Dixie and Kiddy Kong must swim through narrow passages, between massive coral reefs, avoiding various enemies. Many Bounty Basses can be found in the first part of the level, taking advantage of their bulkiness in order to block the Kongs' way. As they strive to get through the lake, Dixie and Kiddy also encounter Bazzas, Lurchins and a few Kocos. Enguarde appears in this level to help the Kongs defeat these many enemies; after entering his barrel, the player can control the swordfish until the end of the level.

"Coral Quarrel" is one of the only levels in Donkey Kong Land III where the DK Coin can be found without having to defeat a Koin. Actually, in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble, there was a small cave at the end of each "Coral" level, in which the Kong could find the Koin and also the flagpole. Such caves do not appear in the Game Boy sequel, since the flagpole is located and raised under the surface.

Level layout

At the beginning of the level, the Kongs start to swim amongst the brightly colored coral and travel through several sharp turns, avoiding many underwater enemies, including Bazzas. Even after the letter K, they continually swim through sharp turns, moving diagonally around the undersea plants. The path soon become more straitened, and the heroes have to swim around a few more enemies until they meet a few schools of Bazzas. From there, they must make a U turn and begin swimming upwards. After they find themselves hovering downwards, they pass a few Bazzas and then find the Star Barrel.

About halfway through the level, the monkeys follow an arrow into an area full of many narrow paths. Making their way north, the group find themselves traveling through an array of passages. They need to use the help of a few arrow, created by bananas, to find themselves near an Animal Barrel. If they enter this common barrel, they turn into Enguarde. With or without Enguarde, the heroes need to make their way north, and then follow some arrows pointing to the west. After passing a DK Barrel, the group continue to head west and eventually start to head among a diagonal pathway. At the top of this pathway, they pass a Lurchin and go over a No Animal Sign. The sign causes Enguarde to disappear if he was freed from his barrel. Right after this sign, the monkeys see a flagpole. Touching the flagpole takes them to the next level.

Secrets

Bonus Levels

  • Shortly after the letter K, the heroes head downwards and find an area where they encounter a school of Bazzas crossing over the main path. They must slip past the Bazzas and hover downwards to find a Bonus Barrel. The special barrel can blast them into a Bonus Level where they need to swim through the area in twenty seconds to find the Bonus Coin. On their search, however, they have to watch out for some enemies. Soon, though, they find the Bonus Coin at the end of the stage.
  • Below a DK Barrel located near the end of the level, the heroes need to head into a small gap, moving south. Soon, they find the letter G. Swimming to the west from there, they find another Bonus Barrel. It will blast them into the next Bonus Level. There, they have to swim through the area and collect a few stars in twenty seconds. After getting every star and dodging every enemy, a Bonus Coin appears at the end of the stage.

DK Coin

  • Heading downwards from the Star Barrel, the Kongs see an arrow pointing to the right. They have to ignore it and travel into a small opening to the left. After swimming to the west for a while, they find the DK Coin floating in front of a dead-end.
