After a tedious journey through the rainy mountains, the snowy tundras and the dim-lit woods of Blackforest Plateau, [[Dixie Kong]] and [[Kiddy Kong]] finally reach a sunny, tropical region: the western banks of the Great Ape Lakes are covered with a dense jungle, that hosts many wildlife species. The Upper Ape Lake is located on the top of high plateau; it is connected to a much more widespread Lower Ape Lake by a large waterfall. The eastern region of this area is not as pleasant, as the [[Kremling Krew]] built two factories there: the first one is located on the edge of a forest, the second is located atop the main plateau.

Template:Worldbox The Great Ape Lakes is the fourth area in the Game Boy and Game Boy Color game Donkey Kong Land III. Its name is derived from the Great Lakes, a group of large lakes in Eastern North America. Located in the Northern Kremisphere, to the east of Blackforest Plateau and to the west of Tin Can Valley, they replace the isle of Mekanos from Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! as the fourth world in the game. The area features a smaller upper lake connected to a larger lake below by a waterfall. On the other side of the waterfall are a cavern and two factories.

Like Mekanos, this area is ruled by the robot KAOS, that is no longer the alleged leader of the Kremling Krew, but simply a weapon whose goal is to get rid of the Kongs before they can reach Baron K. Roolenstein's hideout in Tin Can Valley.
