Template:Species-infobox Sledge Bros. are large overweight versions of Hammer Bros. that throw sledge hammers instead of regular ones.
History
Super Mario series
Super Mario Bros. 3
The Sledge Bros. first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 in Giant Land, where they replaced Hammer Bros. in the area's levels and map. If a Sledge Bro. sees Mario or Luigi, it will try to attack them by throwing sledge hammers at them; additionally, whenever a Sledge Bro. jumps and lands on the ground, it creates a miniature earthquake which can paralyze Mario. To defeat a Sledge Bro., Mario could either jump on it, hit it with a Shell, hit it with a fireball as Fire Mario or a hammer as Hammer Mario.
New Super Mario Bros.
Sledge Bros. also appear in the eighth world of New Super Mario Bros. The Sledge Brothers of New Super Mario Bros. can be defeated by jumping on them, hitting them with a fireball as Fire Mario or by touching them when Mario is empowered by a Starman. Oddly, they were misnamed Sumo Bros. here, a name previously associated with an unrelated enemy from Super Mario World.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Sledge Bros. reappear in the game New Super Mario Bros. Wii as a rare enemy, along with Hammer Bros.. They are first encountered in World 6 in World 6-2, where a pair of Sledge Bros. guarded the exit of the cave. They also appeared in World 7 in Ludwig's castle. Yet again they were misnamed Sumo Bros.
Strangely enough, the Sledge Bro. appeared in more levels than the Hammer Bros. in this game; two for the Sledge Bro., while only one for the Hammer Bro.
The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3
Sledge Bros. made several appearances in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, where they were among the elite of King Bowser Koopa and the Koopalings' military forces. They were generally portayed as fairly tough soldiers, and managed to pose as major enemies to Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Toad in many episodes. Much like in the game, Sledge Bros. were able to cause tremors by jumping.
Yoshi's Safari
In Yoshi's Safari, Sledge Bros. appeared as mini-bosses who would attack Mario and Yoshi by throwing sledge hammers at him; a Sledge Bro. could also immobilize Mario and Yoshi by stomping the ground. A Sledge Bro. must be hit multiple times with Mario's Super Scope to defeat it in Yoshi's Safari. To avoid being hit, Mario must shoot the sledge hammers that the Sledge Bro. threw to prevent him from being hurt.
Mario Kart series
Mario Kart Wii
Some Sledge Bros. can briefly be seen in a few sections of the Daisy Circuit and on a ship in D.K.'s Jungle Parkway in Mario Kart Wii, along with other spectators.
