Dossun mengyo is a creature that briefly appeared in Super Mario-kun Volume 9. Due to the chaos falling upon the Mushroom Kingdom, many strange creatures are born from this event, including this: a Thwomp-faced fish, in reference to the odd-looking mermaids from Japanese folklore, the Ningyo.
Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Birdo meet it while traversing a desert. They try to drink from an oasis lake, only to be attacked by the Dossun mengyo, armed with a fork and fire breath. They escape unharmed, due to the monster not being able to leave the water, and it is never seen again.
