Nintendo World Championships 1990 is a specialized Nintendo Entertainment System cartridge only ever used for the Nintendo World Championships held from March 8, 1990, to December 9, 1990, in 29 cities across the United States of America. It features one game of the Super Mario franchise—Super Mario Bros.—as well as Rad Racer and Tetris as the other two games. The Super Mario Bros. challenge gave players 99 lives, although they had to collect 50 coins in the shortest time possible. All three games were playable for only six minutes and 21 seconds each, but this was adjustable via DIP switches on the cartridge.
References in later games[edit]
- NES Remix 2: Nintendo World Championships 1990 is referenced in the Competition Mode, which is set up like the cartridge.
- Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition: The physical Deluxe Set of this game includes a gold cartridge replica based on the 1990 cartridge.
