Double the damage Mario takes. (Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Nintendo GameCube)
Double the damage Mario takes from enemies. Wearing two or more of these badges further increases the damage taken. (Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Nintendo Switch)

Double Pain is a badge in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and its remake. When it is worn, all damage dealt to Mario, whether through enemies or items, is doubled, with no positive effects added whatsoever. This applies to the damage that Mario would have normally received without Double Pain, as affected by guarding and badges that increase his defense. It does not affect Mario's partners.

Only one copy of Double Pain is obtainable in the game's original release. However, unique behavior was implemented for wearing multiple copies at once. The amount of damage taken is multiplied by the number of Double Pain badges worn plus one[1]—in other words, each badge increments the damage multiplier—so two copies triple the damage taken. This was implemented in the remake, where additional copies can now be found and equipped.

Double Pain also multiplies the damage incurred by a Poison Mushroom Bingo!. In the game's original release, where this Bingo! halves Mario's Heart Points, this interaction always causes an instant KO. In the remake, due to the Bingo! damage being reduced to a third, an additional Double Pain is needed to guarantee such an outcome.

Locations

Double Pain can be bought from Charlieton for 36 coins in the original version and 60 coins in the remake.
