In the Super Mario franchise, clouds[1] may obscure certain parts of a level, typically hiding items. They can be dissipated using certain moves.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii
In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, clouds first appear in World 1-1 at the high up part of the level. They can be cleared away using a Spin Jump. In World 7-5, Foos create fog, which acts similarly to clouds, although it dissipates on its own.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Clouds return in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
