Fugu Face-Off is the fourth boss level of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and its Nintendo Switch port of the same name, located at the end of Sea Breeze Cove. It is where the Kongs fight Fugu.

Layout

The Kongs start out on a shoreline, where a DK Barrel that switches between the three Kongs is found nearby. After diving into the water and proceeding right, a cutscene plays, showing the Kongs swimming up behind Fugu and scaring him. He bloats up, and the Kongs laugh at him. Fugu then takes a deep breath and grows large, exhaling some of the water at the Kongs to push them back, and the battle begins.

Fugu begins the fight by inhaling air to draw the Kongs toward him, then exhaling to push them into the sides of the arena, which are covered in hermit crabs. He also blows air to spin around and move around the arena; while in this state, the Kongs can ram into his backside to damage Fugu.

Upon taking a second hit, Fugu inhales and exhales again, but spits out green fish after this attack. He then blows air out to ricochet around the arena. The Kongs can ram one of the green fish into Fugu to hurt him and deflate him; they can additionally ram into him again while he is deflated to damage him again.

After taking three hits, Fugu gains a new attack: blowing out Sea Urchins at the Kongs. A few green fish appear in the mix for the Kongs to knock into him.

After six hits, Fugu grows to a large size, becoming able to roll around the arena; in addition, his ricocheting attack causes hermit crabs to fall from the walls upon hitting them.

When Fugu takes nine hits, he is defeated. The Kongs must punch him to send him flying and complete the level.
