In chapter 3 [[Super Mario-kun Volume 3|volume 3]], to avoid the scorching sun on the surface, [[Mario]], [[Luigi]], and [[Yoshi]] go underground, where a construction site is present. Jumping over the site's fence, the trio gets yelled at by the foreman, Metto Oyakata, who tells them to leave, since an obstacle course for Mario is being placed, noticing too late that Mario was in the group. Metto Oyakata and his Buzzy Beetle workers activate the already set trap, but the trio avoids them, but then falls into the wet cement. With only their head popping out from the ground, Metto Oyakata calls some [[Swoop|Swooper]]s to suck the trio's energy and abilities to possess them for himself, gaining Mario's nose, moustache and [[Cape Mario|cape]] and Yoshi's hunger for turtles (eating one of his own workers). Out from the cement trap, Mario reaches for a [[3-Up Moon]] and becomes [[3UP Mario]]. With a fire kick, Mario sends Metto Oyakata flying and engulfed in flames towards the powder magazine, blowing up the entire underground.
