Template:Character-infobox Octopus from the Game & Watch games is a giant octopus that guarded treasure from both Mario and the diver from the self-titled game.

History

Octopus

In the Game & Watch game Octopus, the Octopus guarded sunken treasure from the player. It would attempt to grab the player, and if it was successful, the game would register a miss.

Game & Watch Gallery

In Game & Watch Gallery, a port of the original octopus exists where it is played exactly the same, and so the Octopus's role is the same, however a remake also exists in which Mario replaces the diver and goes down to steal the Octopus's treasure, Mario however would not just let the Octopus grab and attack him and would sacrifice his treasure to use as a weapon and throw it at the Octopus, stunning which ever tentacle was hit temporarily.

Game & Watch Gallery 4

In Game & Watch Gallery 4, another port of the original Octopus is unlockable and playable, it is a more authentic port than the one seen in Game & Watch Gallery. Another remake also appears, this time the Octopus had the ability to change colour, and it did so each time Mario stole 200 pieces of treasure from it, Mario can fight it back again this time again by throwing his treasure sack at it, which makes it recoil and cry.

WarioWare: Smooth Moves

The Octopus appears in the microgame Game & Watch Octopus in WarioWare: Smooth Moves in which the player must raise the Wii Remote at the correct time for the diver to escape the Octopus.

Super Smash Bros. series

Octopus is the Final Smash of Mr. Game & Watch in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U. When used, Mr. Game & Watch transforms into the octopus. While he can move in this state, he can still only move like a normal character; he is able to move around across the ground and jump, and can fall off the stage. Octopus damages any opponents that make contact with it, and pressing the attack buttons causes the tentacles to extend, which gives it more range to hit others. The front side of the octopus deals more damage than the back.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, the octopus has a rainbow-colored outline, similar to the glow a character has after collecting a Smash Ball.

Nintendo Land

The Wii U launch title Nintendo Land brings with it a host of 12 diverse minigames based on various Nintendo franchises. One of these minigames is Octopus Dance, which requires the player's Mii to copy dance patterns by flicking the GamePad. Octopus can be seen in the background of the screen, but he appears to have no effect on gameplay. However, if players lose all hearts, the octopus will pick their Mii up and take them away.
