Talk:Octopus (character)
Separation of this and Octopus (final smash)[edit]
I hereby differ you to Wario-Man's single article. Thank you for your time. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:08, 4 December 2017 (EST)
- A flippant attitude does not make a strong argument, especially considering other separate pages like Toad (move) and Banana Peel (move). Hello, I'm Time Turner. 00:22, 4 December 2017 (EST)
- I think what Doc von Schmeltwick is referring to is to merge both the character and Final Smash into one, since in this case it's basically the same thing. I hope that is what I'm referring to, the wording looked kind of funny. – Owencrazyboy9 (talk) 00:30, 4 December 2017 (EST)
- That's exactly what I mean. The content isn't different enough, as is the case for those other things. I'm talking the "transformation" final smash thing, not the "carrying/throwing a thing" type. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:34, 4 December 2017 (EST)
- Now i'm not expert on game and watch stuff but is the Octopus in the games just a transformed Mr. Game & Watch? Chester Alan Arthur (talk)
- No one and everyone is Mr. Game & Watch in the Game & Watch Games. That is to say, that Mr. Game & Watch from the Smash Bros. games is a conglomeration of basically everyone from the old system games, as his moveset attests to. And we don't need an article for "That person from Juggler" or "That bloke from Manhole" or "Those firemen from Fire", so the octopus being in the old system and the Gallery games is a tenuous reason at best, even if some others were replaced with Mario characters. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:44, 4 December 2017 (EST)
- "Obstacle" would probably be a better identifier. Regardless, agreed. The Final Smash Octopus already has its own page, so there's no need for the Smash info to be here when this page is about the obstacle rather than the transformation. 11:47, 4 December 2017 (EST)
- you're the one who split it in the first place though? Hello, I'm Time Turner. 11:50, 4 December 2017 (EST)

Why is this separate?[edit]
I'm a bit confused as to what warrants this article to be separate, and not merged with the Octopus (Game & Watch) article, since basically every single appearance is in relation to the Game & Watch game. I guess because it was "Mario-ized" rather than replaced in the Modern versions of the minigame in the Game & Watch Gallery series? But by that logic, shouldn't we be creating articles for the treasure chest and the boat you ride on in this game, since they were changed to fit the new art style used by the characters rather than replaced by, say, a Koopa Troopa? - One page is about the character. The other is about the game. Blinker (talk) 17:10, February 16, 2024 (EST)
- Yes, and as I mentioned, a character that almost exclusively appears within the confines of the Octopus game, and the only time it hasn't is as the Final Smash of Mr. Game and Watch. There's also precedent for unnamed/generic Game & Watch game objects not being given articles, e.g. the bugs in Greenhouse, the titular turtles of Turtle Bridge, the various "alarm man" characters...
