Pirate Gooms, also known as Spear Men, are Gooms that appear in the first two Wario Land games. In Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, they appear as brown Gooms that hold spears. In Wario Land II, they are red and carry a fork as a weapon. In both games, they pace back and forth in most of the levels and do not fall off unless pushed or thrown. Their spears are pointed forward, so Wario must avoid hitting them from the front.

Pirate Gooms are likely a distant relative of the Goomba. In fact, because of their apparent lack of a body, they highly resemble the Super Mario World Goomba variety.

Pirate Gooms featured a minor change in appearance in Wario Land II. In that game, they started wearing striped bandannas and toting tridents rather than spears. Also, the Giant Spear Man, a big Pirate Goom, is seen fought several times in Wario Land II and serves as the game's "really final" boss. The Giant Spear Man's name implies that Pirate Gooms are alternatively known as Spear Men. However, they have not been specifically referred to as such.

Pirate Gooms do not appear in any other Wario Land game, although relatives of Pirate Gooms do; in Wario Land 3, the Spearhead and the Para-Goom. Similar-looking enemies also appear in Wario Land 4. In the game Wario Land: Shake It!, similar looking enemies known as Bandineros appear, but they are led by the Shake King instead of Captain Syrup.
