Prickly Goombas are Goombas that hide inside spiked chestnuts shells that appeared in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and later in New Super Mario Bros U.

History

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Prickly Goombas first appeared in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, only encountered in World 9-7. Obviously, their spiked shells cannot be jumped on. They will remain stationary until their shells are burnt opened with a single fireball, thus reverting them to a plain Goomba.

New Super Mario Bros. U

Prickly Goombas appeared again in New Super Mario Bros. U, appearing in Frosted Glacier, only in the level, "Prickly Goombas!". They retain their same behavior from their previous appearance.
