:MarioWiki:Signature and Help:Signature both explain how to make your own signature, which I'm pretty sure is the "icon" you're talking about (something other than a basic link to your userpage that appears when you sign a comment, with personalized colours and fonts and often a small picture as well). You can look at how other people format stuff to get an idea of how to do it yourself - both with your signature, and with mainspace edits like adding images and information to articles. MarioWiki:Manual of Style is a great place to go for an overview of how to build articles, and there are lots of other help pages you can look at (many of them are linked to in the welcome template you received when you joined); Help:Image talks about images, for example. - 23:36, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Images

Hi, I recently uploaded an image for my userpage, but it didn't turn out right, so I tried to fix it, & I reuploaded it but didn't turn out right either. I wanted these images deleted (since they had very bad quality), but I probably can't do that. Would you please help me on this situation?

File:BoygeyMario.png
This is the image I want deleted, just to let you know.

A Strollin' Stu as it appears in Super Mario Sunshine. BoygeyPumpkineer A Smolderin' Stu in the game Super Mario Sunshine.

Just tag them with delete and a sysop will come and delete them. YosharioFile:Yoshi wearing mario's hat.jpg

I uploaded an image, now how do I get it into a certain page? User:Rocket88

So, you know this is a maret sockpuppet. User:Super Paper Bowser/sig

I apologize if this is being posted too early on this page, although it is an image-related question: I have been on this Wiki for some time now, and while not often active, I've made a few edits and uploaded some pictures. For some reason, however, when I attempted to upload another image recently, I was not permitted to do so because I supposedly haven't been autoconfirmed, even though I've been here longer than a week. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks in advance! -User:Tailskirby6 Sep. 25, 2010

Does My username and password work on other wikis like Wikizilla? Mario freak (talk)

No, you have to sign up to every Wiki individually. You could always use the same name when joining other websites, but it's a good idea to use different passwords (therefore, if someone discovers the password to one of your accounts, they can't automatically get into all of them). - Walkazo 15:46, 11 June 2009 (EDT)

The Dot

How do you do one of those large dots not a period and they are sometimes found on Templates Mario freak (talk)

Try using the shortcut Alt + 0149 (use the numpad for the numbers). If that doesn't work, just copy the character: •. Time Questions 10:43, 28 July 2009 (EDT)
I go straight to the source and edit the templates to see the raw hexidecimal codes for those sort of symbols. - Walkazo 01:19, 29 July 2009 (EDT)

Polls

How do I add a poll? I went to the polls page, and it says it's not being used anymore, so where do I put my poll? --FunkyK38 (talk) 09:19, 28 July 2009 (EDT)

There's no "official" poll selection anymore. The user who makes the polls is Stooben Rooben (talk), so if you have an idea, I think you can suggest it to him (this doesn't necessarily mean it will be used, though). Time Questions 10:37, 28 July 2009 (EDT)

Petey Piranha Image

I wanted an Image of Petey Piranha from sluggers but it's to big! how do I size it down? go to my page to see what I mean! also I am having trouble posting my signature. GalacticPetey (talk)

Use an image template to resize your picture. An example template code (a thumbnail) looks like this:

That will make the image 150 pixels wide, aligned on the left of the page (if you want it to be on the right, type in "right" where "left" is on this example), and with a caption. You can change the number of "px" to make the images different sizes (I generally find my ideal sizes using trial and error). As for your signature, you should be able to type in "" and get this: "Petey Piranha in Mario & Luigi: Partners in TimeGalacticPeteyPetey Piranha in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time". To use the "~~~~" shortcut, you'll have to go to "my preferences" (at the top right corner of the window, second link from the left), and type in "" in the "Signature" box (fifth line down on the User Profile Preferences page). If you need more signature information, look at Help:Signature and MarioWiki:Signatures; if you want more insight into images, just look around the Wiki and emulate what's been done on those images. - Walkazo 01:12, 6 August 2009 (EDT)

Infobox

How do you make a infobox? also ever since I added a Petey Piranha image to my sig I can't get the link to my page. Petey Piranha in Mario & Luigi: Partners in TimeGalacticPeteyPetey Piranha in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

Look at some of the articles around the Wiki if you want to see how infoboxes work. Or do you mean Userbox towers? As for your sig trouble, I suggest removing the image; accoring to MarioWiki:Signatures, images must be no more than 35px tall, and animated images, like yours, are discouraged (they create long loading times and are distracting to readers). If you really want to keep the images, you MUST shrink them to 35px, and though I do not know why the link stopped working, I found that if you change the text coding to <span style="font-family:Elephant;">User:GalacticPetey</span>, the link works again. - Walkazo 20:22, 7 August 2009 (EDT)

DPL & Other Coding

DPL seems to be a very interesting type of coding, and it also looks to be a good thing to know for wikis. The problem is, I'd like to learn a substantial amount of it, and I don't know where to learn it. Can anybody provide me with links (if not, any coding books or tutorials)? Templates

How do you make a template? Petey Piranha in Mario & Luigi: Partners in TimeGalacticPeteyPetey Piranha in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

Create a page titled "Template:Name" (i.e. Template:SPP for a template about Super Princess Peach) and fill it with coding. But be warned: it takes a while to get good enough at the coding to do it right (I generally copy coding from existing templates and tweak to fit the new template's needs), and people often make templates for things that don't really need one - categories are just as good for most navigational purposes. We're actually trying to cut back on navigation templates and revamp the entire system, so now's not a great time to go making more without a really good reason. - Walkazo 00:15, 7 October 2009 (EDT)

Autocomfirmed and Copyright

Hi. I'm new and I want to now how I get to be autocomfirmed so I can edit my userpage. I also worried because I want to put an image but how I get the permission? I just gonna use a recolor of Mario.Martio (talk)

You get autoconfirmed one week after you joined, at which point you can make and edit a Userpage. I'm not an expert on licensing, but I'm pretty sure Attribution ShareAlike 3.0 would do for an unofficial recolour (which should not be used on painspace, only as a Personal Image). - Walkazo 02:52, 23 December 2009 (EST)

Changing Article Titles

I know that in order to change the name of an article, you must select "Move" on the top of the screen. However, I'm unsure of what to make of this statement: "Links to the old page title will not be changed; be sure to check for double or broken redirects. You are responsible for making sure that links continue to point where they are supposed to go."

It doesn't explain at all how to do this. How can I figure out which articles use the name of the article I want to change? ~Hylian Angel

Who's getting rid of or changing the names of characters and places?!

Who removed the names for the stages of each world for "New Super Mario Bros." and "New Super Mario Bros. Wii"?! I liked those; they helped tell them apart besides being just called World 1 1-1 and all those other bland names! Now they're gone, and I won't be able to remember them! Does anyone on this site remember the names of the worlds and stages for "New Super Mario Bros." and "New Super Mario Bros. Wii"?! Furthermore, who changed the names of Wario enemies to japanese?! Nobody will know that's not really their real names! I must edit these articles and change them back to their neater descriptions!
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sor1 (talk).

The stage names were changed to generic ones because no reliable sources attesting the official status of the other names was provided; wherever possible, we try to avoid unofficial names on the Wiki. The names of the Wario enemies were changed to the Japanese ones as the English names previously used for them were nothing but placeholders due to the lack of a known official name at the time; they were replaced when the official Japanese names of the enemies became known. No official English name has been discovered for any of these so far. If you know of any official English names and can provide a reliable source for them, feel free to change the names; otherwise, the generic stage names & Japanese enemy names will have to stay.--vellidragon 16:21, 25 May 2010 (EDT)

"New Super Mario Bros. Wii" worlds.

Does anyone on this site know the made-up names of each stage from each world on "New Super Mario Bros. Wii" before they all got removed from Mario Wiki? I knew I should have wrote them down while they were still here; I liked them...
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sor1 (talk).

If you want to see the names again, simply click on the "History" tab at the top of the article. This will bring you to a page listing every change that has ever been made to the article in question; simply click on an earlier date to see what the article looked like when that revision was made. In your case, you probably only have to go one or two edits into the past to see the names before they were removed. I'd also like to mention a couple quick things about talk page usage, while we're here: since this NSMB Wii name subject was already being discussed in the above section, rather than creating a new header, it would be simpler if you simply edit the already existing conversation (by adding your new comment to the bottom). And finally, please sign all your comments with Sor1 or ~~~~ so the rest of us know who we're talking to. - Walkazo 18:26, 25 May 2010 (EDT)

How do I answer questions?

Um...somebody's asked me something. How do I answer back on this website? Do I just edit the page or something?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sor1 (talk).

Basically, yes. Write your answer below their question (in the same section of the talk page), making sure to sign with ~~~~ or Sor1. Alternatively, you can go to their talk page and make a new section, in which you would then post your answer. - Walkazo 19:42, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Yes, you have to wait one week to upload, and you cant upload that image since it is already on this site. Pikmin' BluePikminKong497 21:24, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your time BluePikminKong497.What if it is on google? One more question, how can I create my own page?

TRUE???

Hey, I Just want to know what is criteria for Information to be considered reliable and true on this website?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by IGGY7735 (talk).

Well, it has to be proven and come from a reliable source.

BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C)

Taking information directly from the games, other Nintendo-certified sources (such as the old TV series), and from the company itself (such as public statements and official websites) is generally considered the most ideal way of gathering information: nothing beats getting something straight from the horse's mouth. Other sources (i.e. fan websites, unofficial guides) are often consulted as well, however, and in these occurrences especially, the sources should always be cited so that we can confirm they are reliable (which is more of a case-by-case exercise). - Walkazo 16:50, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Astro Goomba?

Where did you get the name for Astro Goomba, Brrr Bit and Burn Bit? I think they should be called by their "Prima" Names, Goombeetle, Lil' Brrr and Lil'Cinder. After all all most every other Super Mario Galaxy enemy got a new or inhansed name for the sequel. Why not them?

so how do i remove this :( ???

Remove what? - Walkazo 01:12, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
He means the boxes around his message, make sure not to put any spaces in front of the message or that box will appear. I removed the spaces for you. Anyways, Java is required to use chat on this wiki though there are several downloadable programs like ChatZilla or mIRC (google them) that you can use. You can also go to http://www.chat.mibbit.com to do it for free and without Java. However you will have to change the server to irc.darkmyst.org and then join the channel #mwikitalk or #mwchat - it's really complicated. It would be best to just keep trying the MW applet. Tower troubles

I have some formatting issues. I try to put some sections beside my tower and it only pushes my userbox tower down. If i put it underneath, it is shown within the tower. If i could get some help with this. User:Geniusguy445 is my page. you can take a look at the code and see if i did something wrong. ^^^^ GG445 Me! "...?" heiho!

Your 3DS userbox is causing it. There are 3 brackets in the beginning instead of two. Also some other userboxes have 3 brackets instead of two. Change that to make it two and I think you should be fine. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C)

Super Paper.....what is this?

Hey, Would Super Paper Mario be considered a 2d platformer or a Rpg?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by IGGY7735 (talk).

I don't know, since I never played the game myself. I read on GameFAQs, however, that it is classified as an platformer. It could also be a hyrbird. An RPG-styled platformer or a platformer-styled RPG. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C)
Well, it's a platformer with RPG elements, from what I have seen. FakeIco MCD.png MrConcreteDonkey 11:23, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

How Can I...

How can i edit the little box at the bottom of a web page (i dont know what its called). The one that you can show and hide, and has all the pages that relate to the page that your one.

IGGY7735

Those are called Templates; they are basically special pages that have been embedded in the pages that you read on the wiki, and to edit them, you have to go to the templates' pages. For example, if you wanted to edit the "Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door" template at the bottom of the Gold Star page, you'd actually have to go to the Template:PM2 page and hit edit there. I usually find the name of the template I want to edit by editing the page they're embedded in, hitting preview and then going to the bottom of the screen, below the "Save" button, to the part that says "Templates used in this preview:" and clicking on the "(edit)" link next to the template in question in the following list. Or you can just find the template in the page's text itself - in the Gold Star example, just look for "PM2" - the squiggly brackets mean that the page named within them is embedded, unlike the square brackets which are merely links. Just remember to add "Template:" before whatever was in the squiggly brackets when you type in the address (which is why I usually use the link in the Preview page: it's more straightforward). - Walkazo 03:29, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Can I still become a sysop or admin if I have warnings?

I have about 4 warnings on my record, but i have learned from my past mistakes, and I never vandalize the wiki. Is it still possible for me to become an admin or sysop? A Star Coin' MileyCyrusSoulja Artwork of the Mario Cap from Super Mario 64 DS

If the admins believe you have learned from your mistakes and that you are behaving better than you were before. It's all up to their judgement in the end and while the warnings will influence them more than a little bit, they are not condemnations. Marioguy1 (talk)
Well, Lindsay was actually blocked for a period of time. And look at her right now. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C)
Just for a tip, Mileycyrussoulja, you're gonna need to start making some bigger edits if you want to become an admin. Minor edits are nice, but it's the big ones that really count ;) Fawfulfury65
Alot of times I make infoboxes for characters, fix spelling errors, and sometimes even add a bunch of trivia to an article. Do those count as big edits?

A Star Coin' MileyCyrusSoulja Artwork of the Mario Cap from Super Mario 64 DS

Fixing spelling errors is very minor. The other things aren't. Fawfulfury65
Well thats what i mean. I do alot of infobox adding and trivia adding, so that means i make some good edits.A Star Coin' MileyCyrusSoulja Artwork of the Mario Cap from Super Mario 64 DS
Adding trivia is actually discouraged (there was a proposal about it a long time ago, iirc): try to incorporate as much info as possible into the main text. - Walkazo 22:27, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

All edits made in good faith are good edits, content edits are what you are speaking of. Anyways, I know I'm not an admin but you have made many redirect articles, which is nice, but those help the content of the wiki minimally. Personally I believe that spelling edits are more valuable than redirecting edits. So I suggest you do more of those and less of these. Marioguy1 (talk)

Sorry to bug you guys again, but how long does it take to promote someone like me to an admin? I've been waiting a while. And actually marioguy1, i NEEDED to make those redirects, since they are redirects to SMG mission names. A Star Coin' MileyCyrusSoulja Artwork of the Mario Cap from Super Mario 64 DS

It will take longer than a few months, just making contributions does not fit the bill, you have to have the right attitude, the right qualities, not just the quantity. Considering you've been banned twice on #mwchat, permabanned from Userpedia and temporarily banned here, it could take a long time...ESPECIALLY after this. Marioguy1 (talk)

Userbox

Title

How can you edit a title of a article?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by IGGY7735 (talk).

You shouldn't do that in any other article than in your userspace, or in cases like the SMW castles. Anyways, the code is Title you want --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 17:40, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Or are you asking about moving an article (i.e. from "Super Mario Bros. (movie)" to "Super Mario Bros. (film)"? You hit the "move" tab at the top of the page, but you need a really good reason to do so. - Walkazo 02:19, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Picture

I uploaded a picture onto my user page and it came out very big. How do I get it to look like the ones in galleries? -- Tails777

to do that, type the coding for the image (, type |200px]]. What you should have typed so far is . That should resize the image to 200 pixels. Typing 300px instead of 200px makes it 300 pixels (bigger) and typing 100px makes it 100 pixels (smaller). You can type pretty much any number as the size, depending on your preference.Marioguy1 (talk)

Problem.

I, MarioMaster2011, have a few problems. I new to this Wiki and need help. I can't seem to make my own icon in a discussion in a article. Also I don't know how to post pictures and add character info. please help as soon as you can.--MarioMaster2011 07:09, 18 December 2010 (UTC)MarioMaster2011

MarioWiki:Signatures and Help:Signature both explain how to make your own signature, which I'm pretty sure is the "icon" you're talking about (something other than a basic link to your userpage that appears when you sign a comment, with personalized colours and fonts and often a small picture as well). - Walkazo 23:36, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

What do you mean?

What do you mean on the rule "Take on a big project"? Is it like a PipeProject, a Goal for a user, or something? Artwork of Dry Bones from Mario Party 8.Happy Halloween! Bone Goomba.png

Just do stuff that requires more effort than random editing: participating in PipeProjects is one thing you can do, or you can find your own projects on the wiki that no one else has singled out, such as expanding level articles for a certain game or creating a useful navigation template, or whatever. It's not a rule and it's not meant to be specific: we're just saying you have to work hard if you want to go far. - Walkazo 02:47, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

Question

Could we be an admin if we had the userspace notice? Artwork of Dry Bones from Mario Party 8.Happy Halloween! Bone Goomba.png

We take a lot of things into consideration when we decide to make someone an admin or not. If they keep editing their userpage extensively, they will not get the promotion, but if they learned their lesson thanks to that notice and shape up, they could eventually rise above their earlier missteps. - Walkazo 00:55, 2 January 2011 (EST)
