'''Tiny-Huge Island''' is an island surrounded by cliffs and an ocean in ''[[Super Mario 64]]'' and ''[[Super Mario 64 DS]]''. It is the thirteenth course in the game, and located on the second floor of the castle. This level has many [[coin]]s with 191 total, many of which come from [[Ground Pound]]ing on the [[Grand Goomba|big Goombas]] for one [[Blue Coin|blue coin]] each.

'''Tiny-Huge Island''' is the thirteenth course of ''[[Super Mario 64]]'' and ''[[Super Mario 64 DS]]''. It is located through the [[★ door]] to the left of [[Wet-Dry World]]'s [[painting]] on the second floor of the [[Peach's Castle|Mushroom Castle]]. There are two paintings that lead to Tiny-Huge Island. The one on the left leads to the "Tiny Island," and the one on the right leads to the "Huge Island," with the painting in the center being decoration. The room with the paintings employs {{wp|forced perspective}}, which gives the illusion that all three paintings are the same size, when in actuality, the paintings and halls they are in are respective to the size of the island they lead to.

Strategically placed around the island are pipes that can alter the size on the entire level, which are reminiscent of ''[[Super Mario Bros. 3]]''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s Level 6 of [[Giant Land#4-6|Big Island]] (World 4) where there are doors that change the enemies' sizes. The main creatures in the level are [[Piranha Plant]]s that shoot fire, [[Koopa Troopa|Koopa]]s, [[Lakitu]]s, , [[Koopa the Quick]], [[Bubba]]s, and [[Goomba]]s. All can change in size, and be replaced. When in the big version of the island, two Bubbas are in the water, Goombas and Piranha Plants are huge, Koopa the Quick will be in the level, and a cannon will be available. The boss of this level is a [[Wiggler]].
Placed around the island are three special [[Warp Pipe]]s, called [[Shrinker Pipe]]s, that adjust the size of the player's character, making him appear to be huge when on the Tiny Island and tiny when on the Huge Island. This feature is reminiscent of ''[[Super Mario Bros. 3]]''{{'}}s [[World 4-6 (Super Mario Bros. 3)|World 4-6]] of [[Giant Land]], where there are [[Magic Door]]s that change the enemies' sizes. Additionally, Tiny-Huge Island is [[Koopa the Quick]]'s homeworld.

While the size of the islands differs, the layouts are generally the same, though some of the features are different.

A unique feature of this level is the option to choose how the level first appears. Entering the small painting causes the island to begin "tiny" (thus Mario beginning significantly larger than everything else in the level). Entering the large painting causes the island to begin in "huge" (and makes Mario extremely small compared to other objects and enemies throughout the level). The entrance room employs [[wikipedia:Forced perspective|forced perspective]], that gives the illusion that all three paintings are the same size. Mario is unable to enter the medium sized (middle) painting.
On the Tiny Island, the player starts in a small field with a [[Mini Goomba|Goombette]]. The doorway to the right is too small to go through, so the player has to [[jump]] to the platforms to the left to progress. On the first platform are a [[flame thrower (Flame Chomp)|flame thrower]] and a [[! Block|yellow block]] containing a [[1-Up Mushroom|1-UP Mushroom]], and the second platform includes a [[Small Piranha]] and a Shrinker Pipe. Next to the pipe is a [[! Switch#Super Mario 64 / Super Mario 64 DS|Purple Switch]] that causes [[block (Super Mario 64)|block]]s to appear, and the player can use them to get to a small floating platform or to get up onto the above ledge. The floating platform contains a single [[coin]] and a [[warp]] in a corner to get back to the main island. The ledge above has [[metal ball|iron ball]]s rolling down it, knocking the player back if they connect. Down the path to the left is a small bridge leading to a Shrinker Pipe and several platforms the player can jump across. Past the platforms are a [[Bob-omb Buddy]] that opens the [[cannon]] on the Huge Island and a body of [[water]] with a sloped beach and a small wooden bridge above it. In the DS version of the game, [[Klepto]] circles the post in the middle. Back on the path with the iron balls and to the right is a Shrinker Pipe next to a series of platforms acting as steps to a bridge that leads to the top of the mountain. Beyond the hole that the iron balls are coming out of is a small field with Goombettes and a [[Small Koopa Troopa]]. Due to its size, this [[Koopa Troopa]] does not give out a [[Koopa Shell|shell]] for the player to ride on, and it is defeated after a single touch or even if [[Mario]], [[Yoshi]], [[Luigi]], or [[Wario]] touches it.
{{br|left}}

The level itself is on the second floor of the castle, and is in its own separate room. The room has three paintings, all exactly the same. The paintings are each down separate hallways throughout the room. The middle painting is thought to be the size that the other paintings would look like if they were normal sized, but the [[player]] cannot go through this painting. The paintings to either side appear to be the same size from the starting platform, but when someone walks up to the one on the left, both the painting and the hallway shrinks; this painting leads to "tiny" island. When the player approaches the painting on the right, everything steadily grows; this leads to "huge" island.
On the Huge Island, the player starts in a field with three [[Big Goomba|Grand Goomba]]s. The platforms to the left are too far apart and tall for the player to use, so the player has to go through the doorway on the right in order to progress. The doorway leads to a large lake and a sloped beach, with the lake having a [[Cheep Chomp|Bubba]] that tries to eat the player, a Koopa Troopa on the beach, and a [[Lakitu]] that circles around both while throwing [[Spiny|Spinies]] at the player. Across the lake are a [[Fly Guy]] and the course's cannon. The cannon can be used to reach the higher platforms, one of which has a bridge that leads to [[Wiggler]]'s Basement,<ref>{{cite|title=''Nintendo Magazine System'' (AU) Issue #52|page=47|date=July 1997}}</ref> the lower portion of a cave filled with [[Red Coin]]s. Past the cannon is a large platform with a strong gust of [[wind]] blowing through it, which will push the player off the edge if they are not careful. To reach the upper platform, the player has to jump in its direction, which causes a gust of wind from below to appear and push the player upward onto the platform. Across the platform's bridge is Windswept Valley, which contains some Grand Goombas and a Shrinker Pipe, as well as the [[pole|flagpole]] during the mission [[Rematch with Koopa the Quick]]. The bridge afterward has wind blowing across it, and beyond it is a hill with iron balls rolling down it. Past the hill are the hole the iron balls come out of and two paths for the player to take: The left has a Shrinker Pipe and large platforms leading to the top of the mountain, while the right leads to a field with Grand Goombas, as well as Koopa the Quick if his mission is selected. Below the iron balls' spawning hole are the large platforms the player could not reach earlier, with the highest one containing several [[Big Fire Piranha|Piranha Flower]]s.

Mario must use Long jump to the first island, then jump again to the next island. Mario must then jump through the pipe, to make the island huge. In the spot, there will be lots of large, fire-breathing [[Piranha Plant]]s on the island now. Mario must dispose of them all, most easily by punching them, to get the Power Star.

For the next star, Mario must again enter the small painting. Then he should get up to the third island, but this time, Mario must go to a small platform just next to the small island and press the switch that is on it, revealing a bridge which Mario must walk over to where the bridge turns, then get off onto a platform. He must jump up to the next platform, avoiding the rolling black balls and then jump through the pipe, making him small. Mario should then make it up to the top of the Island from there, where he will find a ! block which contains the star.

For this star, Mario must enter either painting and get to the third island. Next he should pass through the Windswept Valley bridge. Mario must then race him to Windswept Valley where a flag is seen. If Mario wins, he will be awarded the star.

For this Star, Mario must again go through the small painting. He must find five small openings around the course while he is big. The Openings are in the following places:

In this star, Mario will have to enter the huge painting and make his surroundings bigger. Mario will need to climb to the top of a mountain and turn left. Then he must jump onto the first platform that is past the water and climb up to the very top of a tree where he will be doing a handstand on top. Afterwords, Mario will need to jump on the platform above. He will be on the platform with [[Klepto]] where he can jump up and grab the star that the giant bird is holding. If Mario hits Klepto, he'll knock the star out of his talons and it will land on a platform nearby that Mario can get.

This time, Mario must go through the large painting. He must go through the opening at the start and swim across the lake, going through the pipe to become big. Mario must then fire up at a small platform to the right. There is a narrow bridge here that Mario must follow. At the end of the bridge there is an opening into a cave. Enter this. When Mario is inside, he must jump on the various platforms and collect the eight red coins. The star will then appear on the star marker at the entrance to the cave.

===Star 6: Make Wiggler Squirm===
[[Image:M64DS Wiggler.PNG|thumb|right|[[Wiggler]] angry by his home being flooded.]]
For this star, Mario must go through the small painting. He must get to the top of the island, where he will find a pool. Mario must ground pound the pool, making the water flood through a small opening. Mario must then make his way back the way he came until he gets to a pipe. Jump through the pipe, into Huge Island, then get back to the top of the island again and jump through the opening. Mario will find himself in Wiggler's Cave, where Wiggler will say he is really angry because Mario flooded his house. Mario must then Ground Pound him three times to make him give up the star.

In the DS version of the game, Wiggler does turn red after taking damage twice (as shown on the screenshot).  Interestingly enough, that Wiggler can only hurt the player while in its angry state in the remake.

Tiny-Huge Island is the thirteenth course of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. It is located through the ★ door to the left of Wet-Dry World's painting on the second floor of the Mushroom Castle. There are two paintings that lead to Tiny-Huge Island. The one on the left leads to the "Tiny Island," and the one on the right leads to the "Huge Island," with the painting in the center being decoration. The room with the paintings employs forced perspective, which gives the illusion that all three paintings are the same size, when in actuality, the paintings and halls they are in are respective to the size of the island they lead to.

Placed around the island are three special Warp Pipes, called Shrinker Pipes, that adjust the size of the player's character, making him appear to be huge when on the Tiny Island and tiny when on the Huge Island. This feature is reminiscent of Super Mario Bros. 3's World 4-6 of Giant Land, where there are Magic Doors that change the enemies' sizes. Additionally, Tiny-Huge Island is Koopa the Quick's homeworld.

While the size of the islands differs, the layouts are generally the same, though some of the features are different.

On the Tiny Island, the player starts in a small field with a Goombette. The doorway to the right is too small to go through, so the player has to jump to the platforms to the left to progress. On the first platform are a flame thrower and a yellow block containing a 1-UP Mushroom, and the second platform includes a Small Piranha and a Shrinker Pipe. Next to the pipe is a Purple Switch that causes blocks to appear, and the player can use them to get to a small floating platform or to get up onto the above ledge. The floating platform contains a single coin and a warp in a corner to get back to the main island. The ledge above has iron balls rolling down it, knocking the player back if they connect. Down the path to the left is a small bridge leading to a Shrinker Pipe and several platforms the player can jump across. Past the platforms are a Bob-omb Buddy that opens the cannon on the Huge Island and a body of water with a sloped beach and a small wooden bridge above it. In the DS version of the game, Klepto circles the post in the middle. Back on the path with the iron balls and to the right is a Shrinker Pipe next to a series of platforms acting as steps to a bridge that leads to the top of the mountain. Beyond the hole that the iron balls are coming out of is a small field with Goombettes and a Small Koopa Troopa. Due to its size, this Koopa Troopa does not give out a shell for the player to ride on, and it is defeated after a single touch or even if Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, or Wario touches it.

On the Huge Island, the player starts in a field with three Grand Goombas. The platforms to the left are too far apart and tall for the player to use, so the player has to go through the doorway on the right in order to progress. The doorway leads to a large lake and a sloped beach, with the lake having a Bubba that tries to eat the player, a Koopa Troopa on the beach, and a Lakitu that circles around both while throwing Spinies at the player. Across the lake are a Fly Guy and the course's cannon. The cannon can be used to reach the higher platforms, one of which has a bridge that leads to Wiggler's Basement,[1] the lower portion of a cave filled with Red Coins. Past the cannon is a large platform with a strong gust of wind blowing through it, which will push the player off the edge if they are not careful. To reach the upper platform, the player has to jump in its direction, which causes a gust of wind from below to appear and push the player upward onto the platform. Across the platform's bridge is Windswept Valley, which contains some Grand Goombas and a Shrinker Pipe, as well as the flagpole during the mission Rematch with Koopa the Quick. Below the iron balls' spawning hole are the large platforms the player could not reach earlier, with the highest one containing several Piranha Flowers.

1 - Two of the coins on the Tiny Island are underground near the box that releases iron balls, forming a coin slope that disappears into the narrower slope that forms the ground.[2] The first one's hitbox is a little above the ground, allowing Mario to collect it just by passing above it. The second one cannot be collected by standard means. However, it can be retrieved by diving into the summit of the "Tiny" Island, where Mario would find himself swimming, and then jumping out of the "water" and diving towards the coin.[3]
2 - On the Huge Island, near the box that releases iron balls, there is an invisible object used to spawn a line of five coins, which is used in various other places in the game. However, because of how it is placed under the ground, one of the coins ends up spawning in an illegal location. As such, it is immediately despawned. Though this coin does exist in the course, it is completely impossible to obtain.[4]
