As per MarioWiki:Generic subjects, Generic subjects are worthy of their own article if they meet any of the following criteria:
*The subject must have a function which is different from the real world counterpart. If the differences are extremely minor, the subject may not meet this requirement.
*The player can consume or collect the subject for use. This does not apply to sports games.
*The subject is significant to the media's storyline.
*The subject is significant to the gameplay. This does not apply to sports games.
*The subject is determined by the users to be notable.
Most of the uses of the axe would be worthy of inclusion in this article, as most axes are used in gameplay, and they have a function which is different from the real world counterpart, as I have yet to see a real-world axe being used to cut a bridge above lava. However, there is two sections of this article, being the Super Mario Odyssey and the Mario Hoops 3-on-3’’ sections. In my opinion these sections wold qualify for removal, for the reasons stated below:
*Mario Hoops 3-on-3: The hoop on the Bowser's Castle court is an axe. Thats it. While you could argue that they function different from their real world counterpart, MarioWiki:Generic subjects mention that If the differences are extremely minor, the subject may not meet this requirement. and well, only being a basketball hoop in my opinion is extremely minor.
*Super Mario Odyssey: An axe appears on the the "Zombie Headwear" hat. This is just an axe on a hat like in real-world costumes and hats, and the axe does not change the gameplay of the game, and the hat acts the same as other hats.
Basically, these two sections of the article in my opinion qualify as generic subject that should not be covered and thus should be removed. So should this article be cut?

Remove the ‘’Mario Hoops 3-on-3’’ and the ‘’Super Mario Odyssey’’ sections of this article
#Doomhiker Per proposal.
#Scrooge200 Per proposal. I'd argue that the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate information could be removed as well.
#Waluigi Time Per proposal.
#Yoshi the SSM I would be satisfied with this option, but I prefer the other I voted for. Per Proposal.
#GrainedCargo192 No idea how "Following the October 17, 2018 update for Super Mario Odyssey, a single-bladed axe appears as Cappy's form for the "Zombie Headwear" purchasable clothing from Crazy Cap." and "The axe reappears in Mario Hoops 3-on-3, where on the Bowser's Castle court the basketball hoop's pole is a giant Axe." qualifies for a section, but okay.
Only remove the ‘’Mario Hoops 3-on-3’’ section of this article
#Yoshi the SSM "The player can consume or collect the subject for use." SMO meets this criteria, MH3o3 doesn't. But besides that, per proposal.
Only remove the ‘’Super Mario Odyssey’’ section of this article
#Bazooka Mario I strongly oppose removing the Mario Hoops 3-on-3 information because the axe being used as a pole within the context of Bowser's Castle suggests a reference to the axe's original function in Super Mario Bros.. If we are going to remove the Hoops information, we should be removing the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate one as well for the same reason (and while also ignoring the context as this proposal has done), but none of the options deal with that. The information on Super Mario Odyssey, on the other hand, fails the generic subjects test and has no references to earlier uses of the axe, so it should be the only thing that should be removed.
#Glowsquid what she said
#Mario jc Per Bazooka Mario, if the MH3o3 axe in that context is referencing the SMB axe like the Ultimate screenshot is, then it should stay with it.
#TheFlameChomp Changing vote, per Bazooka Mario.
#FanOfYoshi Per all.
#Alex95 - I'm fine with things now, but I also agree with LGM, so either/or for me.
#Toadette the Achiever Changing vote, per Bazooka Mario.
#Owencrazyboy9 Changing vote too. Per all.
#Waluigi Time My second option, although I think the Hoops information, along with Ultimate, could possibly be better suited to the trivia section.
#Doc von Schmeltwick I was going to vote here for the exact reasons Baz said, but voted below at first due to the other still having a usage. #BBQ Turtle Changing vote now that I've had a proper look at the axe hoop, per all.
Keep the article as is
#Doc von Schmeltwick I consider this more akin to these things. I may remove this vote, but I'll be hard to reach for the next few days.
#Alex95 - The article seems fine to me.

That wasn't an Axe in SMB. It was a switch that looks similiar to an axe.Knife (talk)

Really? Then why is there an axe is Mario Hoops 3-on-3? Seriously, it wasn't a switch. Paper Jorge

This has something to do with SMB how?Knife (talk)

Bowser's first appearance Well anyway look closely. Paper Jorge

"Axe" isn't the preferred spelling. It should be ax. This is the way it's spelled in "How to Win at Super Mario Bros." (1987), the "Super Mario All-Stars Player's Guide" (1993), and reputable dictionaries. --Toadstool Forever 00:18, 23 March 2007 (EDT)

The only reason it doesn't fall in Super Mario Bros. is because the lazy programmers at Nintendo "didn't have time" to make different frames for it. It's supposed to cut the little slope near the bridge, which is the support.

remove only the Super Mario Odyssey section of the article 5-1-11-3
As per MarioWiki:Generic subjects, Generic subjects are worthy of their own article if they meet any of the following criteria:

 • The subject must have a function which is different from the real world counterpart. If the differences are extremely minor, the subject may not meet this requirement.
 • The player can consume or collect the subject for use. This does not apply to sports games.
 • The subject is significant to the media's storyline.
 • The subject is significant to the gameplay. This does not apply to sports games.
 • The subject is determined by the users to be notable.

 • Mario Hoops 3-on-3: The hoop on the Bowser's Castle court is an axe. Thats it. While you could argue that they function different from their real world counterpart, MarioWiki:Generic subjects mention that If the differences are extremely minor, the subject may not meet this requirement. and well, only being a basketball hoop in my opinion is extremely minor.
 • Super Mario Odyssey: An axe appears on the the "Zombie Headwear" hat. This is just an axe on a hat like in real-world costumes and hats, and the axe does not change the gameplay of the game, and the hat acts the same as other hats.

Basically, these two sections of the article in my opinion qualify as generic subject that should not be covered and thus should be removed. So should this article be cut?

 10. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) I was going to vote here for the exact reasons Baz said, but voted below at first due to the other still having a usage. 11. BBQ Turtle (talk) Changing vote now that I've had a proper look at the axe hoop, per all.

Keep the article as is[edit]

 1. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) I consider this more akin to these things. I may remove this vote, but I'll be hard to reach for the next few days.
