The Piranha Plant Capsule is an item that first appears in Mario Party 5, where it can be thrown to a space on the board, or used on the player for five coins, though this is pointless. Whoever lands on a space containing this capsule gets chewed up by a Piranha Plant and spat out, causing them to lose half their coins. If the player has an odd number of coins, they lose the larger portion. In Mario Party 6 and Mario Party 7, it becomes the Piranha Plant Orb that players can only place on a space; it costs fifteen coins at the Orb Shop. Opponents that land on a space containing the Orb are still eaten by a Piranha Plant and lose half their coins, which are then transferred to the space's owner.

In Super Mario Party Jamboree, while the orb does not appear, the Half-Coins Steal Trap takes a similar role.
