The Floating Whirlindas, the Dancing Couple, are two of the portrait ghosts who escaped imprisonment before the events of Luigi's Mansion and its remake. According to the Game Boy Horror, the Floating Whirlindas used to be the local waltz champions, but they are unable to compete anymore because their feet cannot touch the ground. Their portrait number in Professor E. Gadd's gallery is 10.
Luigi's Mansion[edit]
The first Portrait ghosts of Area 2, and fourth overall, the Whirlinda couple resides in the Ball Room found on the first floor's east wing of the mansion. After Luigi defeats the six Ghost Guys in the room, different music starts playing and the Whirlindas appear, making the dancing floor spin as they waltz, occasionally moving on to a different spinning tile. To make them visible, Luigi has to stand on one of the spinning tiles and face away from them. While visible, the gentleman eventually exclaims "Dance!". Both will then do a dance pose, exposing their heart and thus making them vulnerable to being vacuumed by the Poltergust 3000. Capturing the pair gives Luigi the key to the Storage Room.
Physical appearance[edit]
Mrs. Whirlinda wears a green patterned dress with a lighter green trim at the sleeves and at the bottom. She also wears a cream colored belt that is light green at the edges. She has yellow hair done up in a really curly style. She also has green eyes with black lashes.
Mr. Whirlinda wears a fancy red long sleeved patterned jacket with a purple shirt underneath. It has purple buttons and matching colored bow-tie. He has orange-yellow hair and green eyes. They both have sky-blue skin.

- The Whirlindas are the only portrait ghosts to be caught at the same time.
- The Floating Whirlindas, with the Clockwork Soldiers and Madame Clairvoya, are the only human-esque ghosts that have an unknown age in Luigi's Mansion.
- The Floating Whirlindas is possibly a pun on "The Flying Wallendas", a family of acrobats.
