It is based on the real-life game {{wp|keep away|Keep Away}}, on which the minigame's name is a pun (a [[key]] is used in the minigame, rather than a ball). This is one of the two minigames in ''Mario Party'' that require four-way cooperation, the other being [[Running of the Bulb]].

Key-pa-Way is a 4-Player minigame in Mario Party.

Overview[edit]

The minigame requires four-way cooperation, like Running of the Bulb, so all four players either win or lose together. One player has the key, which the others try to obtain. If the player with the key reaches the lock, every player wins ten Coins, otherwise all players lose the minigame and lose five Coins each if either time runs out one of the five Spike Koopas steals the key.

Key-pa-Way costs 400 Coins to buy from the Mini-Game House when it becomes available.

The name and gameplay of Key-pa-Way is based on the game Keep Away.
