Puftoss is the boss of the area Gloomy Galleon in the game Donkey Kong 64. Puftoss is a giant Puftup, a type of blowfish. He is faced by Lanky Kong who is in a coconut boat. Puftoss cannot be hurt directly by Lanky: instead, Lanky must use his motorboat to drive through several DK Logos which appear throughout Puftoss's arena. If enough of the DK Logos are driven through, large poles will rise out of the water and electrocute the boss.

Trivia
During gameplay, Puftoss sits in the center of the pool during the battle. He changes direction to try and spit fireballs at Lanky. Lanky can damage Puftoss by bringing electrical poles out from the water by driving through all five DK stars, each having a 30-second timer and resetting as he drives through each one. If done on time, the poles generate an electric current that electrocutes Puftoss, otherwise the poles go back into the water. Puftoss cannot damage Lanky on contact. Puftoss's pattern changes during every round: In the second round, he shoots out four fireballs and slams the water, creating two blue shockwaves, which disappear on contact with the electric poles. The DK stars become increasingly smaller in round, and their corresponding timer decreases by an additional five seconds: starting with 25, then 20, followed by 15, and lastly 10 seconds. After a third hit, Puftoss begins to utilize another attack in which it spits a large fireball in the air that then divides itself into smaller fireballs to rain on to the arena for about ten seconds. After a third hit, Puftoss begins spitting out a Puftup, which explodes after a while. After a fourth hit, Puftoss begins shooting out five fireballs, then a Puftup, then five more fireballs, and lastly causes it to rain fireballs. Puftoss is defeated after a fifth hit, causing it to inflate and then deflate after flying around the arena while air is released from its mouth. Afterwards, Puftoss is reduced to being small and flat, and it floats down to the water slowly, vanishing on contact with it, and the Boss Key appears on the water's surface for Lanky to collect.
*Puftoss is ocassionally referred to as Blowfish Baddie, due to a mistake made by Prima's Strategy Guide for the game.

Model from Donkey Kong 64
Species Puftup
First appearance Donkey Kong 64 (1999)

Puftoss,[1] also known as Blowfish Baddie,[2] Sea Spike,[3] or the Pufferfish,[4] is a massive yellowish Puftup and the boss of Gloomy Galleon in Donkey Kong 64. His physical differences from a normal Puftup include three jagged teeth on his lower jaw, larger eyes with brown pupils and light pink eyeballs. His name is a portmanteau of "Puftup" and "boss".

Fighting Puftoss requires that 250 bananas be fed to Scoff at the Troff 'n' Scoff location in order for Troff to unlock the door that leads to the battle against Puftoss. Lanky Kong is the Kong who is selected to fight Puftoss. When entering the boss door, Lanky finds himself in a dark, isolated galleon area while sitting inside of a small motorboat shaped like a coconut half. After a few seconds, the screen turns to a silhouette, which lets out a growl. After falling backward, Lanky puts on the boat's light to help him identify where the source of the growl. Puftoss appears in front of Lanky after he waves in front of the light, staring at him directly. After Puftoss lets out a large roar, the battle starts.
