The Battle Lab is a training area in Paper Mario: The Origami King. It is located in the basement of a house in Toad Town with a sign of two hammers crossed above the door, and is unlocked after rescuing a Toad folded into a dog on Picnic Road. There are three different types of services here: The training machines, the Ring Trainer, and the Bossotronic Fighter. It is similar to the Action Command Dojo from Paper Mario: Color Splash.
If Mario visits the Battle Lab at certain points in the game, he will receive special items from the Toad running the lab. On his first visit, a 1-Up Mushroom is given. After defeating the Earth Vellumental, the Timer Extender is given. After destroying the yellow streamer, the Puzzle Solver is given.
Training machines[edit]
There are three different training machines:
Ring Trainer[edit]
The purpose for the Ring Trainer is to practice solving ring puzzles, using Toads resembling the Rescue Squad captains from Paper Mario: Color Splash. There are two different modes: The Ringer and Speed Rings. A retro arrangement of the regular battle music is used during these puzzles.
A Collectible Treasure of Ring Trainer (No. 67) can be found in Shroom City.
The Ringer[edit]
There are three levels, in which Mario must solve ten ring puzzles. Failing to get a perfect lineup with the number of moves will automatically end the level. After completing a level, the fastest time taken is recorded. The first level is available initially, the second level is unlocked after clearing the blue streamer, and the third level is unlocked after clearing the yellow streamer. If Mario completes all three levels, he earns The True Ringer trophy.
Speed Rings[edit]
Speed Rings is an endless mode, in which Mario must solve as many ring puzzles as he can within 100 seconds. If the Toads are not lined up within the move limit, the puzzle resets. There is also an option to pass to a different puzzle, which decreases the timer by 10 seconds. If Mario manages to solve 16 puzzles, he earns the Speed Ring King trophy.
Profile[edit]
- Collectible Treasure No. 67: "You won't get far if you can't arrange enemies! This nostalgic arcade cabinet will help you hone your lineup skills."
Bossotronic Fighter[edit]
The Bossotronic Fighter (short for "Bossotronic Animated Machine Fighter") allows Mario to refight past bosses from the game. For each battle, Mario's HP is set to a certain amount and is given certain weapons and items. Additionally, 1-Up Mushrooms and accessories cannot be used. The fastest time taken to defeat the boss is also recorded afterwards. After defeating all bosses, Mario receives Collectible Treasure No. 15: Bowser.
