Big Beanie primarily attacks by spitting Mame-san at the Yoshi. Yoshi can use eggs or the Mame-san against the boss to inflict damage. After each hit, Big Beanie will extend several thorny stalks from the platform Blue Yoshi is on, retracting them shortly afterwards. In the second and third phases of the battle, he protects himself with stalks, which Blue Yoshi can destroy using Mame-san or eggs. After receiving three hits, Big Beanie shrinks down, defeated.

Big Beanie's Castle is the eighth level of World 1 in Yoshi's New Island and the first castle level of the game. It is home to several Mame-san, one of which gets turned into Big Beanie by Kamek and acts as the level's boss. The level features Countdown Platforms, which can be stepped on a certain number of times before they disappear. It also introduces pairs of large solid blocks with smiley faces on them that slowly revolve around in a set direction and can be used as platforms; blue ones move automatically while orange ones can be activated or deactivated by hitting nearby orange switch blocks. This level's playable Yoshi is the blue Yoshi.

Overview[edit]

Shortly after the starting position, Blue Yoshi has to traverse a series of Countdown Platforms over lava, avoiding Mame-san and Shy Guys. Afterwards, there is a door which leads to an area with the Checkpoint Ring, followed by a series of smiley blocks that move around. Eventually, after climbing two pairs of moving blocks, Blue Yoshi encounters the boss door. Past the door, a series of stairs lead to a Mame-san, which grows into a tall beanstalk after Kamek squashes him with a magic hammer. A boss battle commences as Blue Yoshi climbs to the top of the beanstalk, where Big Beanie awaits.
