Lottery Shops are buildings in Mario Party 4 where players can play games of chance to win prizes. Each game costs five coins to play. There are two types of games, one of which is randomly chosen each time a player visits the shop.
The Lottery Ball Game involves rotating until a colored ball pops out of a machine. A blue ball indicates third prize, a pink one second prize, and a gold one first prize. A white ball wins nothing. The player has an approximately 66% chance of getting a white ball, approximately a 22% chance of getting a blue ball, approximately a 10% chance of getting a pink ball, and approximately a 2% chance of getting a gold ball.[1]
The Scratch Ticket Game involves the player picking one of twelve scratch cards and scratching it to reveal a prize. One card each will win the player first, second, or third prize, indicated by a 1, 2, or 3 on the card, respectively. The remaining nine cards have the text "Try Again", winning nothing, giving the player a 75% chance of winning nothing, and an 8.333% chance of winning any of the three prizes individually (for a total of 25%).[1] Computer players will always pick a "Try Again" card.
The prizes are a Super Mega Mushroom or a Super Mini Mushroom for third prize, 30 coins for second prize, and 100 coins for first prize. If a player winning third prize already holds three items, they will not be able to collect the prize.
Additionally, if it is a player's first visit to the Lottery Shop and the visit came before the last five turns of the game, the player receives a free Lucky Party Ticket. Also, if any players enter the shop while under the effects of a Mini Mushroom or Super Mini Mushroom, a block is provided for them to stand on when playing.
