Yes, I know that YoshiGo does this, but my point is that they're not even sprites in the first place. Sprites are 2D images. When they move, they use a frame-by-frame motion. These are models, and models use bones to move, so you can't rip every single frame of a moving model. Anyway, I'll crop the images if you want. {{User:LeftyGreenMario/sig}} 22:25, 8 April 2013 (EDT) | Yes, I know that YoshiGo does this, but my point is that they're not even sprites in the first place. ==Aboutfile== | |||
{{aboutfile-reminder}} | |||
Hello, regarding your [[:File:SmallMarioNSMBUD.png|recent upload]] you need to add the {{tem|aboutfile}} template when you upload images, and while I already added the aboutfile template for you, images should have this template when they are uploaded. A guide of how to add this template is listed above this comment. Thanks for your understanding. {{User:Doomhiker/sig}} 15:43, 23 January 2019 (EST) | |||
:You have forgot this [[:File:PiranhaPlantP&YWW.png|again]]. While I have also added this template on that image for you, please remember the above when uploading images. Thanks for your understanding. {{User:Doomhiker/sig}} 14:53, 24 January 2019 (EST) | |||
::Hello, I'd just like to step in here and say that you're doing nothing wrong- it's fine to upload images without an aboutfile in case that wasn't clear, it's completely optional to use it and you're doing the right thing by removing it entirely if you aren't using it. Good work on those uploads, though! :) [[User:BBQ Turtle|BBQ Turtle]] ([[User talk:BBQ Turtle|talk]]) 14:11, 24 January 2019 (EST) | |||

::My apologies, I didn't saw your message. But just like Alex95 said below, it is optional to add the {{tem|aboutfile}} template. But is it really important the template anyway? Because because all five points of every image are exactly the same; I take every image from game screenshots on this site, I remove the backgrounds and crop the image (so that you only see the character), and I upload it. That applies to every image I upload. [[User:Yes man|Yes man]] ([[User talk:Yes man|talk]]) 15:57, February 18, 2020 (EST) | |||
::Overturned. Not filling it out correctly is one thing, but the aboutfile template itself is completely optional to use. As stated in the reminder above: "If you do not wish to use the template at all, then it is acceptable to simply remove it before you upload the file." {{User:Alex95/sig}} 16:13, February 13, 2020 (EST) | |||

== Images and policy == | |||
I know most of your images are screenshots with backgrounds cropped, but {{file link|CoinCoffer SM3DW.png|this}} is not OK. For starters, it's a .jpg to .png conversion, which is outright against our image policy. The only time details should ever be whited out on a .jpg image is if it's like an art scan where another unrelated artwork gets slightly within the borders or a similar situation. This, on the other hand, is akin to attempting to make a .jpg transparent, which is not allowed. Aside from that, it's upscaled and I can see the original pixels with resize-sampling filters over them, which while I'm not sure if it's explicitly forbidden, should still never be done as it looks hideous. Hi, just letting you know that when adding an image file to a gallery - specifically, between <nowiki><</nowiki>gallery<nowiki>></nowiki> and <nowiki></</nowiki>gallery<nowiki>></nowiki> - it is not necessary to type "File:", the image will still be added without it. For example, instead of "File:Nocoverart.jpg" you can just write "Nocoverart.jpg". [[User:MarioComix|MarioComix]] ([[User talk:MarioComix|talk]]) 17:19, May 29, 2020 (EDT) | |||

The crop work in the majority of your uploads have been a hit-and-miss. While less complex and sprite-based ones like [[:File:BowserMP4.png|this]] are fine, ones like [[:File:KingBooMK8D.png|this]] and [[:File:KoopaTroopaMGTT.png|this]] with very visible edge pixels and traces of image editing are not (they're essentially the same as bad transparency, without the transparency). If the resulting crop isn't going to turn out great from the source image, I would strongly suggest not uploading it. {{User:Mario jc/sig}} 23:09, May 29, 2020 (EDT) | |||
:I'll try to pay attention to it. For sprites like [[:File:KingBooMK8D.png|this]], I use the website clippingmagic.com. ::You literally can't. [[User:Doc von Schmeltwick|Doc von Schmeltwick]] ([[User talk:Doc von Schmeltwick|talk]]) 14:37, June 18, 2020 (EDT) | |||
:::Converting to jpg is a destructive edit to a file since it does several things: compresses the image and involves information loss and removes transparency. Converting png to jpg is kinda like crumbling a piece of paper; it saves space but the paper has alterations that can't be easily reversed. jpg compression is really good for large images that doesn't need transparency since the space saved is significant amount (especially when we have an image upload limit), but to get png quality images, you have to probably get the original asset through press kits and the like. {{User:Bazooka Mario/sig}} 14:45, June 18, 2020 (EDT) | |||
::::On that note, you may consider asking Results May Vary as he has some press kits and knows someone with access to others. Fair warning, though, a lot of misc only-appears-once-in-group-art renders do not have an "alone" version contained in them, especially for entities that already have basic art. And lots of large ones are saved as .jpg in them anyways. [[User:Doc von Schmeltwick|Doc von Schmeltwick]] ([[User talk:Doc von Schmeltwick|talk]]) 15:12, June 18, 2020 (EDT) | |||

== Model uploads == | |||
Hi, as a courtesy since you've been contributing a lot in this area, I wanted to let you know that we're beginning to work on moving away from in-game model images in favor of model renders. This is mainly being done because in-game model images don't provide anything that ordinary game screenshots don't, while also having additional drawbacks. Taking the model out of its original context can represent it inaccurately, due to issues such as lighting or the environment (i.e. underwater scenes). | |||
I'm not telling you that you have to stop uploading in-game models altogether, but please at least check to make sure that the subject doesn't have a render already uploaded before doing so. And if you're at all interested in helping with model renders, [https://www.models-resource.com/ The Models Resource] has plenty of them. You don't even need to do anything with the models yourself, the previews they have on the website are sufficient. --{{User:Waluigi Time/sig}} 16:26, June 6, 2022 (EDT) | |||
:That's okay, I will look if the subjects doesn't already have a render. Uploading those models is something I do for years, with love and passion. But not every subject has a render or model on The Models Resource, take the enemies in Super Mario Run. [[User:Yes man|Yes man]] ([[User talk:Yes man|talk]]) 14:48, June 8, 2022 (EDT) | |||
:Why do you delete them anyway? It is necessary to delete them? Because I did a lot of work in uploading those models, and I saw some of them were deleted. [[User:Yes man|Yes man]] ([[User talk:Yes man|talk]]) 15:39, June 9, 2022 (EDT) | |||
::Right, if it's a case where The Models Resource doesn't have anything on it, then there's not really any harm in uploading an in-game version of the subject in the meantime. The deletions were only done in cases where where we have both a model render and screenshot of the subject in-game, since having those two cover all bases. --{{User:Waluigi Time/sig}} 15:48, June 9, 2022 (EDT) | |||
:::Ok, I understand. But the The Models Resource-models look a little square, my models don't. [[User:Yes man|Yes man]] ([[User talk:Yes man|talk]]) 15:52, June 9, 2022 (EDT) | |||
::::If by "square" you mean the low polygon count ([[:File:Sunshine Mario Tourist Model.png|here, for example, you can see the edges of Mario's hat are kind of sharp]]) that's just a consequence of taking them out of the in-game environment and looking closer at them than the developers intended. In more modern games like on Wii U and Switch you won't see that as much, but on older consoles those are often just the limitations that they had to work with. I'll admit that the previews on The Models Resource aren't always perfect, and often the best course of action is for someone who knows what they're doing to render the model themselves with the proper conditions, but not everyone has the ability to do that. If you want to discuss the technical aspects of this further, though, I'd suggest talking to {{User|Ray Trace}} and/or {{User|Bazooka Mario}}, they know a lot more about how models work than me and were supportive of the decision as well. --{{User:Waluigi Time/sig}} 16:05, June 9, 2022 (EDT) | |||
:::::Yes, that's what I mean. At that picture, Mario's hat may be sharp, but his nose is still square. I understand not everyone has the abitlity to upload proper renders, but why do you only want to have the square models if 'my' models have a better quality? {{last warning}} | |||
Again you did this with [[:File:MKT BrosTricking.jpg]]. I already linked the [[#Reminder|relevant proposal/policies]] for why this isn't allowed; the conversion quality usually turns out bad and at times is just a similar image but with an unnecessarily bigger file size. Even if there's a chance the quality of the result looking convincing (which wasn't the case here; your image had leftover edge pixels and there was still part of the background inside the steering wheel), there have just been many past instances of this happening on the wiki, usually to poor results, that it was decided it was best to prohibit it entirely. {{User:Mario jc/sig}} 07:19, February 24, 2023 (EST) | |||
:My bad. I'll keep a better eye out for it and only take png's from now on. [[User:Yes man|Yes man]] ([[User talk:Yes man|talk]]) 15:52, February 24, 2023 (EST) | |||

== Image crops == | |||
Hello, a number of admins and I have noticed the quality of crops you're putting out and decided that you not upload any more "3D model" crops from screenshots in the future. The reason for this is due to the [[:File:PeachSMRPGS.png|amount of]] [[:File:DonkeyKongMP4.png|poor]] [[:File:LuigiM&SATOGT2020.png|crop work]] (parts of the characters being cut off, or bits of the background still being present), which it doesn't seem you have any intention of going back and fixing; but also the general imperfections the edits create like the [[:File:MarioMvsDKS.png|blurry edges]]. While some of them like those without anti-aliasing ''have'' been passable, it seems like you're just uploading whatever you've done without using your best judgement on deciding if they're good or bad, after I said before to avoid uploading an image if it looks poor (you even uploaded [[:File:ShyGuyM&SATL2012OG.png|one]] immediately tagging it with an {{tem|image-quality}} notice); and we shouldn't have to assess every upload for you. The original screenshot already does the job of showing what the character looks like, and if it's not yet on the wiki, just keep the background intact. If we need models, stick with renders of the actual models from the game's files rather than from screenshots. {{User:Mario jc/sig}} 10:59, April 12, 2024 (EDT) | |||
:It would be hard for me to stop uploading those pictures, because I do so for more than ten years and it became a part of my life. I'm sorry if I was negligent, I improved that Luigi pic and uploaded a new version of it. I can improve the other ones as well later. I won't be so negligent in the future, I'm sorry for that, I can pay more attention to upload better models. [[User:Yes man|Yes man]] ([[User talk:Yes man|talk]]) 15:30, April 12, 2024 (EDT) | |||
::This is a cease and desist on these types of "models" if that wasn't clear, so there won't be any future ones. I'm sorry you feel that way but the quality of these crops have just not been up to par. I am sure you will find other ways to contribute to the wiki. {{User:Mario jc/sig}} 11:39, April 25, 2024 (EDT) |

Hey there. Nice job with the New Super Mario Bros. Wii images, but when uploading them, remember to always include the category for that game's images. In this case, for every NSMBWii image, you would include "[[Category:New Super Mario Bros. Wii Images]]" when you are uploading the image. Thanks. --- ThePremiumYoshi (talk)

My really favorite games are Donkey Kong 64 and all of the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, but I really like Super Mario Galaxy, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Mario Kart 7, Super Mario World and pratically all of the spinoffs. And I am not really a fan of Will.i.am, lol. --- ThePremiumYoshi (talk)
- You have much favorite games. The only ones of them I've played are Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario World (GameBoy Advance version), and that are nice games. From the Super Mario Galaxy-series I have SMG2, and I like that game very much! My favorite charcter in the game is, after Bowser, Bowser Junior and Yoshi, Lubba. Oh, pity. That Black Eyed Peas-rapper is one of my favorite artists. Did you know yesterday was his birthday? Do you like KFC? Yes man (talk) 15:41, 16 March 2013 (EDT)

- See, the problem with the "sprites" you're uploading is that they're not even sprites at all. They're models taken from a screenshot. Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 18:04, 7 April 2013 (EDT)
Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 22:25, 8 April 2013 (EDT)
- Yes, you're right, the images I upload of NSMBU, MGAT or SMG are models, but I call it sprites. I don't know why. Yes, can you do that for every bad quality sprite I upload? I think it won't be much. PS: Maybe this is a bad grammar, but I'm a Dutchman and I'm almost 13 years old. Yes man (talk) 14:20, 9 April 2013 (EDT)
Yeah, I can do that. And I can understand you perfectly. Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 22:15, 9 April 2013 (EDT)
- Thanks. Allright. Who's your favorite character? My favorite is Bowser. Yes man (talk) 08:00, 10 April 2013 (EDT)
- Sure, I'll remove the backgrounds of the images. My favorite character is Bowser's worst enemy. :) Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 14:20, 13 April 2013 (EDT)
- By the way, don't take stuff from artwork. Make sure the pictures you use are from screenshots instead. Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 14:22, 13 April 2013 (EDT)
Yes, sure I can. I've been inactive for a while, so I apologize for that. School is piling on me.

Re: Mario Kills Tanooki[edit]
Actually I was just thinking about making a proposal for this. However, I have no knowledge of any Mario controversies other than Mario Party 8 one. Another point to consider is that Bulbapedia has one. Surely a large series such as the Mario series has enough significant controversies to qualify for an article? I wouldn't know how to begin a proposal for this either. GBAToad (talk) 11:34, 25 April 2013 (EDT)
- Well, maybe we can start an article of this. Maybe other users know some Mario controversies. But do you hate PETA too? I really don't like them, 'cause I'm a big fan of Mario and KFC. Yes man (talk) 13:51, 25 April 2013 (EDT)
- Alright, I'm sure there is enough
finger-lickin' goodquality information to form an article. I don't pay attention to PETA, they are hardly worth the time. Anyway, I'll try an propose an article or something when I get the time. Nice to meet you. GBAToad (talk) 04:25, 26 April 2013 (EDT)- Me too. Haha, "finger lickin' good" is one of the KFC slogans, just like "SoGood". Thanks. We can put Mario's appearences in the PETA-campaigns against KFC and McDonald's too. 'Cause there are some Mario-characters who appear in the game Super Chick Sisters (this game can be played at KentuckyFriedCruelty.com). Nice to meet you too. Do you like KFC? It's my favorite restaurant. PETA most know Colonel Sanders was real, not just an icon or mascot. Yes man (talk) 10:32, 26 April 2013 (EDT)
- Alright, I'm sure there is enough
Re: Controversies[edit]
Sorry it has taken so long for me to reply. I'm trying to organize it now. It depends on where the article should be proposed, either in the forums or on the proposals page. Proposals about creating articles due to insufficient coverage on the Wiki will be removed unless there is discussion in the forums prior. Currently, I do not own a forum account, but the article will be created, eventually. Being Nintendo's flagship franchise, there is bound to be plenty to add to the article when it is up and running, so it shouldn't go unnoticed. Just need to follow the rules is all. Thank you for being patient. :) GBAToad (talk) 09:55, 30 April 2013 (EDT)
- Ok. Thanks for saying it. Isn't PETA disrespectful to Colonel Sanders? Colonel Sanders, the eldery man in KFC's logo, was real. And at Kentuckyfriedcruelty.com, PETA transformed him into a bloodthirsty chicken-murdrer. By the way, who's your favorite Mario-character. Mine is Bowser.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Yes man (talk).- Iggy Koopa. But yeah, I won't go on about PETA. It is disrespectful, yes, but that makes it controversial and gives them attention. Anyway, try talking to me on the forums when I get an account, this conversation would be more suited for there. :) GBAToad (talk) 11:34, 30 April 2013 (EDT)
Sprite[edit]
Yes man, about the recent sprites you recently uploaded, as to File:DiddyKongSSBB.png. Don't rip off screenshot from opening cutscenes, as the character are feature as part of CGI material not spirte or model.
Re:NSMBU Sprites[edit]
Sorry, I can't really remove the background of that pic, the shading on the toad from the desert scene is to noticable after the background is removed to make the pic look good. Koopa-Troopa

New Super Chick Sisters[edit]
Hi !
I'm sorry but New Super Chick Sisters is not a Mario-related controversy. It's againt KFC and fast foods, not against Mario. This reference is already covered here. I have deleted your text in the controversy article; please don't re-add it. However, feel free to add it in the aformentionned references article :) Just reword the beginning and it should be fine.
Banon (talk · edits) 12:39, 27 May 2013 (EDT)
- My bad. New Super Chick Sisters is the sequel of Super Chick Sisters
Banon (talk · edits) 12:44, 27 May 2013 (EDT)
I agree but it's still not a controversy about any aspect of the Mario series. I think it should stay on the video game references article; the web one doesn't cover website, I think.
Banon (talk · edits) 17:32, 27 May 2013 (EDT)
No problem, I'm a Frenchman :p Yes it is a online Flash game, but it's still a video game in my opinion.
Banon (talk · edits) 14:59, 28 May 2013 (EDT)
- Well, somebody moved the SCS, NSCS, and Mario kills tanooki subsections to the Web article. Maybe it belongs there after all.
Banon (talk · edits) 15:02, 28 May 2013 (EDT)- Yes, and that's just like what I wanted to do. Now, I'm going to add some pictures of the appearence of the Mario-characters in the games. Didn't you find PETA's campaign disrespectful to Colonel Sanders? He was a real person, and he died in 1980. Now, PETA changed him into a bloodthirsty chicken-murder behind the Colonel's back. Yes man (talk) 08:42, 29 May 2013 (EDT)
NSMBU Models[edit]
I am done with removing the transparency from the backgrounds. I'm sorry that I couldn't do it promptly. I have a lot of school-related things to do (it's the last year of high school for me, after all). Thanks.
Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 14:05, 7 June 2013 (EDT)
- It doesn't matter. Thanks for removing the transparency from the background. I know how miserble school can be. I'm a first former at school now. In which city do you live? I live in Zwolle, a city in the Netherlands. Yes man (talk) 15:24, 7 June 2013 (EDT)
- Oh, you hate school as well? School is agony for me. I live in the Los Angeles county in the United States. It's far away from where you live, just across the oceans.
Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 15:28, 7 June 2013 (EDT)- Yes, I hate it. But I have to do it for a better future. Los Angeles is quite big, and beautiful! I like that skyscrapers. It makes me sad they aren't in my city. Zwolle, the city where I live, has about 122.000 people. In the Netherlands, only cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht has got skyscrapers. And I like the United States too. It's my favorite country. Yes man (talk) 14:37, 13 June 2013 (EDT)
- Oh, you hate school as well? School is agony for me. I live in the Los Angeles county in the United States. It's far away from where you live, just across the oceans.
I don't live near skyscrapers (I live in a suburban setting), but I've seen them in L.A. downtown. They're scary, and I often wonder if they're going to collapse in an earthquake. I wonder what Zwolle looks like? I've bee to only one major European city, and that's Paris. As far as I know, I don't recall Paris having skyscrapers.
- Okay. Do you live in a safe surburban setting? Zwolle is an old and safe city. This is a photo made in the center of Zwolle. I've been in Paris too. Paris has a few skyscrapers, but not much. In Puteaux, Nanterre and Courbevoie (three suburbs of Paris) is a business district called La Défense, and there are much skyscrapers. Yes man (talk) 08:47, 13 August 2013 (EDT)

Re: Sprites[edit]
Yes man (talk) 15:26, 7 June 2013 (EDT)

We don't need a cropped version. The foot is cut off on the art, you see, and we have a rule about cropping sections of group artworks. We can wait until a higher resolution, official solo art is released.

I've never heard of any of those names, except for Queen; I hope I don't disappoint.

Image uploads[edit]
If the file doesn't look right after uploading a new version, try refreshing the page and clearing the cache (ctrl F5).
Shokora (talk · edits) 05:21, 1 August 2013 (EDT)
- I thought that it may have been the problem you had here. Usually if you upload a new version of a file, it appears stretched because it's remembering the size of the older revision. And refreshing the page will help fix this. But never mind if this isn't an issue for you.
- I can't access very much video content at the moment, and GIMP is being a pain. I'll let you know when I can and you can tell me what you'd like me to try and get.
- Yes, man.
Transparent[edit]
Do you have PhotoShop or Gimp?--
08:28, 7 August 2013 (EDT)
You could always add transparent for sprites online easily if you want.
- Open this site
- Click "Choose File" and choose the file from your computer and hit Upload
- Click the tab "Wizards" and choose "Trans-parency" (word split into two lines)
- Change Fuzz Factor from 3% to 0%. Then click on the background (once you click somewhere it will be transparent. You may want to click in multiple places.
- Right click on the image and press "Copy image URL". Go upload the image and instead of uploading from your computer, you could select external image and paste the link.

Galleries[edit]

Wing cap image[edit]
I hope you don't mind, but may File:WingCapSM64.PNG be reverted to the revision with the background? Removing the background wasn't done very well, and the model alone looks much less appealing without the actual background behind it. In future, if you wish to remove a background from a screenshot to separate the sprite/model, it would be better to upload it as a separate file instead, so we'd still have a screenshot available to display on articles. Thanks.

Image transparency[edit]
Please do not upload artwork with poor transparency, as it's against policy and will be reverted immediately.
Shokora (talk · edits) 10:52, 4 October 2013 (EDT)
- Please stop. The transparency is pixelated and unofficial.
- Thanks. Unless it was already found transparent in an official source (i.e. press kits official webpages), self-making artwork transparent doesn't often produce desirable results (one can usually see pixelated edges around the image).
- Oh, I see. Thanks for the clarification.
- Additionally, please do not revert images to those with poor transparency. It's against policy.

Why I did it.[edit]
I requested these images to be deleted because these are low-quality and poorly anti-aliased. Frankly, they don't look very good. I did keep some of them, but if you're able to get pictures of these characters from the better screenshots (such as the Tanooki Rosalina one), then they won't be deleted. Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 15:14, 18 January 2014 (EST)
- The picture is low quality and not really useful because of that. Unlike the Rosalina one, this one is really blurry and poorly antialiased (that means, it's cropped with ugly edges. Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 21:10, 27 January 2014 (EST)
Models (NSMBU and SM3DW)[edit]
Sorry for late reply. The reason we deleted your New Super Mario Bros. U models is because the don't look good, they don't have the good quality like others such as this one
This also applies to 3D World. This one right here is also good.
We want to see good models like the ones that are in NSMBW's gallery and SM3DL's gallery. In order to do something like that you would need to find high quality screenshots which I believe are 1280 x 720, make sure you crop off any things making the model like bad. But some models we got from the game's files but we were only able to do this with Gamecue and Wii games. YoshiGo99 09:39, 28 January 2014 (EST)
- Okay. But how can I get better sprites for NSMBU en SM3DW? Yes man (talk) 12:41, 10 February 2014 (EST)
- Sorry for butting in; as of now, it isn't highly important for us to get these images, so please don't fret if we lack good screenshots to crop out the characters. You have to take it from stuff like the crispest official Nintendo screenshots; other screenshots are too low quality to warrant cropping. Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 13:56, 10 February 2014 (EST)

- Thanks. I don't know Chick-Fill-A. I live in Zwolle, a city in the Netherlands, and you can't find Chick-Fill-A-restaurants in the Netherlands. But there are some KFC's in the Netherlands, but only in some cities with more than 45.000 people. Are there Chick-Fill-A restaurants in countries like Belgium, Germany, France or the UK? We were actually talking about removing the white background previously since it meshes better with the article, but it's great seeing someone else making the job easier. Upload[edit]
You could have just uploaded a new version of File:Mario Kart DS Itembox.png instead of creating a new entry File:ItemBoxMKDS.png because they are of the same MIME type (image/png). Kingdom Builder Sprites[edit]
Hey, Yes Man?
Could it be possible to rip sprites and stuff from the Kingdom Builder Mode of Super Mario Run?
I wanna see if it's possible. --LTIan (talk) 20:09, 1 February 2017 (EST)

Yes, I do! :D Thank you very much! Can you get more like buildings and stuff? Could you also get the backgrounds from the Kingdom Builder Feature?
With enough sprites and stuff from the kingdom builder feature, we can officially have a Kingdom Builder article! :D --LTIan (talk) 01:48, 7 February 2017 (EST)

Spriter's Resource Account?[edit]
Do you have a Spriter's Resource account? :)
If you do, could post a sprite sheet of everything containing from the Super Mario Run Mobile Game.
Even the Kingdom Builder stuff. :) --LTIan (talk) 18:57, 6 February 2017 (EST)
- No, I don't. I would like to have one, but I don't know how on earth to make a sheet. ;-) Yes man (talk) 13:03, 7 February 2017 (EST)
- It's actually quite simple to make a sprite sheet: just combine all of the sprites that you've managed to rip into one big file. :) --LTIan (talk) 13:13, 7 February 2017 (EST)
Water Geyser Image[edit]
Hello. I'm confused as to where you found this image of a Water Geyser. It's labeled as being from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but as far as the page says (and as far as I can remember), there don't appear to be any Water Geysers in that game. 12:40, 9 September 2017 (EDT)
- Maybe it was a mistake. It can also be from New Super Mario Bros. U. ;-) Yes man (talk) 15:58, 9 September 2017 (EDT)
Image tags[edit]
Hi. You keep giving your uploads the "game sprite" tag, but most of them actually fall under the "3D model render" option, even if they're low resolution. "Sprite" should be reserved for when something is a flat graphic within the game's data. Thank you! Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:19, 30 March 2018 (EDT)

Aboutfile[edit]
Hello, Yes man. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly use the {{aboutfile}} template. What you were doing looks like this, and it is an inconvenience for other users to fix up the template. It is simple to learn how to format it correctly. The pre-loaded syntax is shown below. {{aboutfile |1=Subject of the image |2=Where you found the image |3=Artist |4=Describe edits, if any |5=Other versions (use file link) }} Just replace the necessary parts with that corresponding information, and remove the entire line for the parameter(s) you don't use. Please consider the above information before uploading more files. If you continue using {{aboutfile}} incorrectly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing. |
Hello, regarding your recent upload you need to add the {{aboutfile}} template when you upload images, and while I already added the aboutfile template for you, images should have this template when they are uploaded. A guide of how to add this template is listed above this comment. Thanks for your understanding. Doomhiker (talk) 15:43, 23 January 2019 (EST)
- You have forgot this again. While I have also added this template on that image for you, please remember the above when uploading images. Thanks for your understanding. Doomhiker (talk) 14:53, 24 January 2019 (EST)
- Hello, I'd just like to step in here and say that you're doing nothing wrong- it's fine to upload images without an aboutfile in case that wasn't clear, it's completely optional to use it and you're doing the right thing by removing it entirely if you aren't using it. Good work on those uploads, though! :) BBQ Turtle (talk) 14:11, 24 January 2019 (EST)
This warning has been overturned by the MarioWiki staff. The original warning can still be viewed. | |
---|---|
This is a warning to stop your inappropriate behavior (not using the aboutfile template) on the Super Mario Wiki. Please adhere to the rules or you will be blocked from editing this site. If you feel this warning was undeserved, you may appeal it. |
- You're still not doing this. Make sure to use the {{aboutfile}} template when uploading images. --DeepFriedCabbage 15:14, February 13, 2020 (EST)
- My apologies, I didn't saw your message. But just like Alex95 said below, it is optional to add the {{aboutfile}} template. But is it really important the template anyway? Because because all five points of every image are exactly the same; I take every image from game screenshots on this site, I remove the backgrounds and crop the image (so that you only see the character), and I upload it. That applies to every image I upload. Yes man (talk) 15:57, February 18, 2020 (EST)
- Overturned. Not filling it out correctly is one thing, but the aboutfile template itself is completely optional to use. As stated in the reminder above: "If you do not wish to use the template at all, then it is acceptable to simply remove it before you upload the file." 16:13, February 13, 2020 (EST)

Images and policy[edit]
I know most of your images are screenshots with backgrounds cropped, but this is not OK. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:11, April 27, 2020 (EDT)
- Alright, I will crop my pictures from other screenshots. Thanks for your warning. Yes man (talk) 15:38, April 28, 2020 (EDT)

- Any reason why some of them are of worse quality than the originals though (like File:MarioMK8D.png and File:MK8D Mario Using Smart Steering.png)? You can see some artifacts on them. Mario JC 21:14, May 13, 2020 (EDT)
Gallery Image Files[edit]
Hi, just letting you know that when adding an image file to a gallery - specifically, between <gallery> and </gallery> - it is not necessary to type "File:", the image will still be added without it. For example, instead of "File:Nocoverart.jpg" you can just write "Nocoverart.jpg". MarioComix (talk) 17:19, May 29, 2020 (EDT)
Cropped images[edit]
The crop work in the majority of your uploads have been a hit-and-miss. While less complex and sprite-based ones like this are fine, ones like this and this with very visible edge pixels and traces of image editing are not (they're essentially the same as bad transparency, without the transparency). If the resulting crop isn't going to turn out great from the source image, I would strongly suggest not uploading it. Mario JC 23:09, May 29, 2020 (EDT)
- I'll try to pay attention to it. For sprites like this, I use the website clippingmagic.com. Do you maybe know another website where I can delete te backgrounds free and easily, without visible edge pixels? Yes man (talk) 05:39, May 30, 2020 (EDT)
Reminder[edit]
Please stop uploading jpg-converted pngs on the Super Mario Wiki. This isn't a warning, and it's possible that you made a mistake by accident or without realizing it; this is simply a reminder for your information. If the action continues, then a warning will be issued. Thanks for reading and keep contributing. If you feel this reminder was undeserved, you may appeal it. |
This has happened twice since you were already notified about this. jpg-png conversion is not allowed. Don't use jpgs as source images for your images please. Mario JC 22:18, June 17, 2020 (EDT)
- How can I get the png-quality for images like those? Yes man (talk) 07:57, June 18, 2020 (EDT)
- You literally can't. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:37, June 18, 2020 (EDT)
- Converting to jpg is a destructive edit to a file since it does several things: compresses the image and involves information loss and removes transparency. Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 14:45, June 18, 2020 (EDT)
- On that note, you may consider asking Results May Vary as he has some press kits and knows someone with access to others. Fair warning, though, a lot of misc only-appears-once-in-group-art renders do not have an "alone" version contained in them, especially for entities that already have basic art. And lots of large ones are saved as .jpg in them anyways. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:12, June 18, 2020 (EDT)

Shell image[edit]
The shell crop was taken from File:Toad Shine Thief.jpg and upscaled, which also has the shell's left side cut off. You were already reminded for converting from jpg to png with the background removed and for cropping from more complex images. Please be mindful of the source image, and again, don't upload them if the cropping is shoddy, like the Super Mario Party Mario image from a week ago, otherwise a warning may be issued. Mario JC 21:10, March 5, 2021 (EST)
- File:GreenShellMK8D.png
- I've been searching, and I found a less complex image of the Green Shell. How do you like this one? ;-) Yes man (talk) 09:37, March 6, 2021 (EST)
File category links[edit]
Letting you know for future uploads that file category links now have "images" in all lowercase, otherwise linking with "Images" leaves a red link. Mario JC 22:43, February 2, 2022 (EST)
Your last upload missed this; please remember that "images" should have the "i" in lowercase so other users don't fix it for you. Mario JC 04:40, February 8, 2022 (EST)

- Just a little mistake, I'm trying to pay attention to it. Next uploads will be with the "i" in lower case. :) Yes man (talk) 15:13, May 26, 2022 (EDT)
Mr. I[edit]
This image has been deleted time and time again for being an inaccurate sprite assembly, not an actual screenshot. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:23, February 21, 2022 (EST)
Model uploads[edit]
And if you're at all interested in helping with model renders, The Models Resource has plenty of them. You don't even need to do anything with the models yourself, the previews they have on the website are sufficient. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 16:26, June 6, 2022 (EDT)
- That's okay, I will look if the subjects doesn't already have a render. Uploading those models is something I do for years, with love and passion. But not every subject has a render or model on The Models Resource, take the enemies in Super Mario Run. Yes man (talk) 14:48, June 8, 2022 (EDT)
- Why do you delete them anyway? It is necessary to delete them? Because I did a lot of work in uploading those models, and I saw some of them were deleted. Yes man (talk) 15:39, June 9, 2022 (EDT)
- Right, if it's a case where The Models Resource doesn't have anything on it, then there's not really any harm in uploading an in-game version of the subject in the meantime. The deletions were only done in cases where where we have both a model render and screenshot of the subject in-game, since having those two cover all bases. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 15:48, June 9, 2022 (EDT)
- Ok, I understand. But the The Models Resource-models look a little square, my models don't. Yes man (talk) 15:52, June 9, 2022 (EDT)
- If by "square" you mean the low polygon count (here, for example, you can see the edges of Mario's hat are kind of sharp) that's just a consequence of taking them out of the in-game environment and looking closer at them than the developers intended. If you want to discuss the technical aspects of this further, though, I'd suggest talking to Ray Trace (talk) and/or Bazooka Mario (talk), they know a lot more about how models work than me and were supportive of the decision as well. -- Too Bad! JPG conversion[edit]
This is a warning to stop your inappropriate behavior (uploading jpg-converted pngs) on the Super Mario Wiki. Please adhere to the rules or you will be blocked from editing this site. If you feel this warning was undeserved, you may appeal it. |
You did this again with the rotated, transparent-background bubble Goomba png taken from File:Group Artwork NSMBU.jpg when you should've known this is not allowed after multiple past-notified instances. Mario JC 12:03, July 30, 2022 (EDT)
- I apologize. Could you tell me why this is not allowed? Because the quality of the Goomba picture was good. Yes man (talk) 15:28, July 30, 2022 (EDT)
This is your last warning. The next time you break the rules in any way, you will be blocked from editing the Super Mario Wiki. If you feel this last warning was undeserved, you may appeal it. |
Again you did this with File:MKT BrosTricking.jpg. I already linked the relevant proposal/policies for why this isn't allowed; the conversion quality usually turns out bad and at times is just a similar image but with an unnecessarily bigger file size. Mario JC 07:19, February 24, 2023 (EST)
- My bad. I'll keep a better eye out for it and only take png's from now on. Yes man (talk) 15:52, February 24, 2023 (EST)
Modified artwork[edit]
Don't make edits to the actual subject of the image either. That image of a Piranha Plant in a red pipe was edited from File:Get Reel 3.png with the bottom-right part of the pipe edited in to remove the flower. Mario JC 23:43, March 4, 2023 (EST)
Image crops[edit]
Hello, a number of admins and I have noticed the quality of crops you're putting out and decided that you not upload any more "3D model" crops from screenshots in the future. The reason for this is due to the amount of poor crop work (parts of the characters being cut off, or bits of the background still being present), which it doesn't seem you have any intention of going back and fixing; but also the general imperfections the edits create like the blurry edges. While some of them like those without anti-aliasing have been passable, it seems like you're just uploading whatever you've done without using your best judgement on deciding if they're good or bad, after I said before to avoid uploading an image if it looks poor (you even uploaded one immediately tagging it with an {{image-quality}} notice); and we shouldn't have to assess every upload for you. The original screenshot already does the job of showing what the character looks like, and if it's not yet on the wiki, just keep the background intact. If we need models, stick with renders of the actual models from the game's files rather than from screenshots. Mario JC 10:59, April 12, 2024 (EDT)
- It would be hard for me to stop uploading those pictures, because I do so for more than ten years and it became a part of my life. I'm sorry if I was negligent, I improved that Luigi pic and uploaded a new version of it. I can improve the other ones as well later. I won't be so negligent in the future, I'm sorry for that, I can pay more attention to upload better models. Yes man (talk) 15:30, April 12, 2024 (EDT)
