Air Bags,[1] also called Balloon-in-the-Boxes[2] and once referred to as balloon bullies,[3] are giant pink balloon enemies that reside in Mystery Crates in Yoshi's Story. Their name is based on the name of the real-life airbag, found in vehicles to prevent injury during a collision.
History[edit]
Yoshi's Story[edit]
Exclusively found in the second half of the Page 1 level Surprise!!, Air Bags are found within Mystery Crates that the Baby Yoshis cannot push or destroy via ground-pounding. Air Bags can be revealed by shooting an egg or one of Huffin Puffin's chicks at the crates. Once revealed, Air Bags attack by blowing a strong gust of air at a Yoshi that deals no damage, but it can risk pushing them into enemies. To defeat an Air Bag, the Yoshi must throw an egg or one of Huffin Puffin's chicks at the pair of bandages on its belly twice. Upon defeat, the bandages fall off and the Air Bag deflates until it disappears, leaving a melon.
Super Mario-kun[edit]
An Air Bag also appears in the 19th volume of Super Mario-kun as an obstacle protecting a Special Heart. Red Yoshi defeats it when one of his shoes accidentally flies off and impacts the Air Bag's bandage.
