In the minigame, teams of two players each race to be the first to reduce a [[Bowser Statue]] to rubble by punching, kicking, and performing Hip Drops upon it.  The Control Stick is used to move.  {{button|n64|A}} is pressed to jump, and {{button|n64|B}} to punch. The player can Jump Kick by pressing {{button|n64|B}} in the air. Pressing {{button|n64|Z}} while the character is in the air will result in a Hip Drop.
Both teams try to destroy a [[Bowser Statue]] through various actions, with [[punch]]es, kicks, and Hip Drops inflicting one, two, and three damage, respectively. The first team that destroys their statue wins, though if neither does it on time, the team that damaged the Bowser Statue the most wins. If the damage from both sides is equal, it is a draw.


The game has three variations: Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3. The difference between the variations is the size of the statue; Type 1 has the smallest, Type 2 has medium, and Type 3 has the largest. If neither team tears down the statue in 60 seconds, it results in a draw.
Destruction Duet has the variations Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3, featuring a small statue of Bowser crouching with 30 health, a larger statue of Bowser standing with 60 health, and a larger statue of Bowser standing with his arms raised with 90 health, respectively. The Mini-Game Coaster uses Types 1, 2, or 3 for Easy, Normal, or hard difficulty, respectively.

Destruction Duet is a 2-vs-2 minigame found in Mario Party 2.
