The game takes place in an octagon circuit with lots of [[Amp]]s in it. The player must get through the circuit by passing through the gates in each section while avoiding the amps. If you touch an amp it will stun you for a few moments. Each section has more and more amps, making even harder for the player to get through without getting shocked. The goal is to get all the way around the octagon in the quickest way. When somebody wins, the other three players are seen being chased by amps around a podium on which the winner stands.

Circuit Maximus is a 4-Player minigame in Mario Party 6. Its name is a reference to the Circus Maximus, which was a racing arena in ancient Rome.

In the Miracle Book of the game, there is a page entitled "Amp Attack" that is based on Circuit Maximus. Luigi and Daisy are shown playing. Activating the page causes an Amp to shock Luigi.

There are only aesthetic changes between day and night.
