History[edit]

Luigi's Mansion[edit]

Blue and Purple Mice in the game Luigi's Mansion.
Two Blue Mice and two Purple Mice

In Luigi's Mansion, mice are depicted as a type of ghost. Blue Mice move along floors, while Purple Mice are additionally able to go up and through walls as well as climb on ceilings. They deal five HP of damage if Luigi touches them. They are very common and have no HP value or heart; they are simply sucked up instantly when the Poltergust 3000 is activated. They are found almost entirely in hallways, though Blue Mice are also found in a few darkened rooms, a number that increases in the PAL Hidden Mansion.

Mice reappear in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, now appearing organic with a stylized appearance shaped similarly to a computer mouse. They flee when Luigi shines the light on him, but they still do five HP of damage to him if stepped on. Mice are usually found near mouseholes, where they are generated. They are defeated either when Luigi uses the Poltergust 5000 to suck them in or by shining a Strobulb on them. When a Strobulb is shined on them, they can drop a coin, a heart, or nothing.

One mouse plays a role at the beginning of the game. When Luigi first visits the Gloomy Manor, he is unable to open the door since it is locked. A mouse scurries out of the mousehole, holding a key on its tail. Only after Luigi retrieves the key is he able to access the Gloomy Manor. Later, a mouse in the Haunted Towers holds one of the 13 emeralds in the Seedling Laboratory.

This type of mouse appears in Luigi's Mansion Arcade with the same appearance and role.

Luigi's Mansion 3[edit]

Mice reappear in Luigi's Mansion 3 as enemies, acting as they did in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, though now with a more realistic appearance with a distinct head. After Luigi defeats Chef Soulfflé, several mice steal the elevator button released from him, prompting Luigi to chase them around the Mezzanine to retrieve the button.
