Soda Jungle is the jungle-themed fifth world of New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, and their reissues appearing in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. Soda Jungle is the largest world in the game, both physically and in terms of courses. The dead trees in the center of the jungle leads to a haunted area, containing a few extra courses, including Boo Enemy Courses. This also makes this world the only world in New Super Mario Bros. U with more than one section. When the player enters the area, the area pixelates before loading again, similar to the transition screen in Super Mario World. The name is derived from soda as a reference to the poison in the world. Soda Jungle is a location introduced in New Super Mario Bros. U.
History[edit]
Super Mario series[edit]
New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[edit]
Soda Jungle is the jungle-themed fifth world of New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, and their reissues appearing in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. Soda Jungle is the largest world in the game, both physically and in terms of courses. It is similar to Giant Land from Super Mario Bros. 3, Forest of Illusion from Super Mario World, and World 4 from New Super Mario Bros. in terms of appearance, layout, and theme, as the jungle is giant-themed within both the world map and the normal levels and features big enemies or big variations of small enemies, like Big Goombas and Big Koopa Troopas. There are 12 levels in this world, with the first Airship level appearing before entering the section, five normal levels in the outer areas, two that are in the haunted area along with the second Ghost House and the Boo Enemy Courses, a secret level, the Tower level, and the Castle level. Three Toad Houses can be found here as well, one green and two red. The bosses of this world are Bowser Jr., a larger Boom Boom, and Iggy Koopa.
There are several ways to enter this world. Completing Sparkling Waters or Frosted Glacier normally will bring the player to The Mighty Cannonship (All Aboard! in New Super Luigi U), the first airship in the game. Finishing Acorn Plains and Layer-Cake Desert's secret levels will immediately take the player to Soda Jungle. However, if the player manages to complete Sparkling Waters or Frosted Glacier's secret levels, they will both lead to Fuzzy Clifftop, Rock-Candy Mines' first level, bypassing Soda Jungle. Thus, every world before Soda Jungle leads to the latter by completing the previous world's castle. Soda Jungle also leads to every world afterward besides Peach's Castle and Superstar Road.
In the haunted area in Soda Jungle, the player must take a secret exit in either Painted Swampland or Deepsea Ruins (Painted Pipeworks or Deepsea Stone-Eyes for Luigi in New Super Luigi U) in order to create a pathway that will allow the player to leave the haunted area and proceed through the world, in a manner similar to the Forest of Illusion in Super Mario World; taking the normal paths otherwise in either stage will bring him back to the pathway in front of Which-Way Labyrinth (Boo's Favorite Haunt in New Super Luigi U).
