Chocolate Island 2 is a level of Chocolate Island in Super Mario World. This level is unique and features four different areas, which are all affected by the amount of time, the number of coins, or the number of Dragon Coins that the player has. This level can be accessed through the completion of Choco-Ghost House. By completing this level through the Giant Gate, the player gains access to Chocolate Island 3. If the player reaches the secret exit with the key, they can access Chocolate Secret, which is located underneath the Valley of Bowser.
Layout[edit]
Area 1[edit]
This area always has a consistent layout. Mario (or Luigi) starts out on a bunch of stacked platforms with Dino-Rhinos and Dino-Torches walking around. Mario must jump up the stacked platforms to get to the top of the level and run forward on the hill to progress through the area. Two Dragon Coins can be found on the beginning and end of the hill. There is a Prize Block on a pillar in the middle of the hill. Then, Mario finds more stacked platforms, which he must jump down. Mario finds a Warp Pipe leading to Area 2.
Area 2[edit]
This area is affected by the number of coins that the player collected in Area 1.
Variation A[edit]
Mario must have collected at least 21 coins to access this variation of the level (which can be done only if he had hit the Coin Block in Area 1 and/or if he was using a Fire Flower in that area). This area is composed of two large gaps that can be crossed only by Caped Mario. There is a Cape Feather on the ground that Mario must collect to complete this area. First, Mario must use the Triangular Block to run up the pillar. After gaining enough speed, at the top of the pillar, Mario must jump up to start flying. As he crosses the bottomless pit, Mario finds rows of three coins suspended above the pit. A Dragon Coin can be found floating above a pillar that Mario flies past. After a long segment of the level spent flying, Mario finds a platform carved into the mountain, which has the Warp Pipe leading to the next area.
Variation B[edit]
Mario must have collected eight or fewer coins to access this variation. Mario starts on a platform at the bottom of the screen. This area consists entirely of short sloped platforms with a bottomless pit stretching across the entire area. Mario also finds many red Koopa Paratroopas throughout the level. At the end of the area, there is a flat platform at the side of the mountain and a Warp Pipe leading into the next area.
Variation C[edit]
Mario must have collected 9–20 coins to access this variation. Mario starts the area on a flat platform. There is a Prize Block containing a coin in front of the Warp Pipe. Mario must run up the gentle slope, avoiding the Rex. He finds a stack of three platforms with Rexes on each of them, which he must avoid. Then, Mario must jump across several bottomless pits, using narrow platforms and Jumping Boards to cross over them. Mario then finds another stack of three platforms. Mario must get to the top of this stack of platforms and jump across two Warp Pipes, avoiding Jumping Piranha Plants. A Dragon Coin can be found above the Piranha Plants. After traversing the next platform, Mario finds yet another stack of three platforms. This time, there is a stack of three Prize Blocks next to these platforms, the block on the top containing a power-up. The Warp Pipe leading to the next area can be found right after the stack of platforms.
Area 3[edit]
This area is affected by the amount of time on the timer that the player has left.
Variation A (secret exit)[edit]
Mario must have 250 seconds or more left on the timer to access this area. This area consists mostly of a long flat platform. There are several Chargin' Chucks found throughout the area. There are also piles of blocks on the ground and two yellow Warp Pipes. Exclamation Mark Blocks of all four colors can be found above the ground. After Mario gets past all of these obstacles, he finds a staircase-like platform with a key and keyhole.
Variation B[edit]
Mario must have 235–249 seconds left on the timer to access this area. Mario starts out on a jagged platform with several Dino-Rhinos and Dino-Torches walking toward him. A Dragon Coin can be found floating above the ground. After Mario traverses this Dragon Coin, he finds a Warp Pipe leading to the next area.
Variation C[edit]
Mario must have 234 seconds or less left on the timer to access this area. The entire area consists of narrow platforms with water filling in the pits between them. There are no enemies here; instead, there are swarms of Super Mushrooms found in bubbles. A Dragon Coin can be found floating above the water. At the end of the level, there is a Warp Pipe leading to the next area.
Area 4[edit]
This area is affected by the number of Dragon Coins that Mario has collected throughout the level.
Variation A[edit]
Mario must have three or fewer Dragon Coins collected throughout the level to access this area. This area has grassy platforms with many bottomless pits. Mario starts out on a flat platform in front of the Warp Pipe. First, Mario must use the Jumping Board to jump across a wide bottomless pit. On the next platform, Mario finds a stack of five platforms with Rexes on each of them. After Mario gets past these hazards, he finds the Giant Gate.
Variation B[edit]
Mario must have at least four Dragon Coins collected throughout the level to access this area. Mario starts out on a grassy platform with two Rotating Blocks. There are rows of coins suspended above a wide bottomless pit. Mario must hit the Switch Block at the end of the grassy platform to turn these coins into Brown Blocks, which Mario must quickly traverse to cross the pit. Alternatively, if Mario has activated all four colors of the Exclamation Mark Blocks, he can simply use the long row of blocks below the coins to cross the gap. At the end of the path, there is a Dragon Coin and a Giant Gate.
