In Super Mario 64 DS, a similar flower known as a Power Flower will give either Mario, Luigi, Wario, or Yoshi a special power, which would originally be gained by wearing a special cap in Super Mario 64. When Mario uses a Power Flower, he is able to float for a short time. At certain times, the ! Block will give Mario a feather which will allow him to fly (same as Wing Cap). If Luigi uses one, he becomes partially immaterial and can move through certain objects to get to new places (same as Vanish Cap). If Wario uses one, he become metal and can walk at normal speed underwater and can withstand great winds (same as Metal Cap). When Yoshi uses a Power Flower, he is able to breathe fire (does not come from the original game.)

In Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Fire Flowers are referred to as Bros. Flower and attack all enemies as well as possibly causing a burn. In addition, there are two related items: the Mix Flower, which when used creates one giant fireball that falls upon the foe, and the Ice Flower, which is used in the same manner as a Bros. Flower but reduces the enemies' stats rather than causing a burn.

In the Paper Mario series, when Mario and his allies are battling an enemy or two, this item does 3 damage to all foes. It's a common item and isn't very useful when Mario and the gang start fighting stronger enemies.

When Mario or Luigi obtains a Fire Flower, they transform into Fiery Mario or Fiery Luigi. In this form, they can shoot fireballs which can defeat many enemies. The Flower first appeared in Super Mario Bros., which could be found in an ? Block if you had already obtained a Super Mushroom.

In Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis when a Mini-Mario touched a Fire Flower, he would become Fire Mini-Mario.
